WHY ME!!

  Clio 172
Had a leak coming from what I thought was the rocker cover......... So stripped it all down and its solid so gave it a tap here and there it started to move next thing the cams are moving and there is defo no gasket there? have a made a big **** up here before I go any further?

  Lotus Elise
Yes. The rocker cover holds the cams on the F4R engine. It will need re timing at the very least but might as well do the cambelt. No gasket under the rocker cover just silicon.

You've got two choices as I see it.

Save money by borrowing third party timing tools, but have to get the engine re-timed once you realise it's 30hp down.

Or do it right first time, stop trying to save £150 and get it done right the first time, properly.

The Britool guy won't stock genuine Renault tools. Any other brand WILL NOT do it properly. They will bend or even not fit.

You're looking at over £150 for all 3 parts (technically you need 4 as there is a different part you need for 1 tool)

Tbh for the cost, you aren't gonna save much from taking it to a specialist if you have to fork out for the tools anyway.

And no offence, but if you took the rocker cover off without clicking the cams are being held in place by it - can you do the belt change - I mean no disrespect here, but these are renound for painful belt changes (I think due to space and awkwardness), and so many get done wrong (even from some "specialists") - the last thing you want is to be down on power and it having to be done again with even more cost associated with it.

Calm down guys the tool man has got the tools as he told me himself and I'm not doing it myself ie thats what friends are for and i dont think a timing belt is likely to phase him lol

From the guide on here the guy used laser? Anyway thanks for your help people I'll leave it with the mechanic now ive done my bit! Cocked it up hahaha

  Clio 172
Yes oh dear and lol god loves a tryer hahaha defo the downsides of these cars jobs are a pain in the arse especially if you have shovel hands like myself hahaha! Roll on 20th may :D

I can imagine i did the aux belt and that wasn't the easiest! Ive got 2 really good mechanics on call so it shouldn't be a problem mate cheers
