Winter Run about Low Mileage Ph1 172.

Bought yesterday as a runabout for the winter as i currently have no road going vehicle, looking for another BMW Touring but will find one come spring time.
Needs a few bits cosmetically, wheels refurbed, steering wheel retrim and interior trims repainted, the usual PH1 bits really. Going to give it a big service as well inc. plugs, cambelt and brakes allround.

Scrubs up well, only gave it a quick wash, hoover and once over this afternoon while dodging the rain. Spent some time on the interior and gave the seats a good clean. Also replaced the aftermarket clear side repeaters for the oe orange ones.

Couzens, would love to build an E36 M3 Evo Touring! Danny its Titanium, not a massive fan of iceburg on a ph1 tbh. Ive had x3 Titanium Ph1's now so another colour would have been nice but hey ho.

Be great to see one restored to factory fresh :). Until the race car is desperately in need of some donor parts ;)

Been doing a couple of little bits this week, not as much as i'd hoped but the cars outside as i have a new kitchen taking up one side of the garage so cant get it under cover atm.
Sent my spare steering wheel off to 'snappy' for a retrim, black and blue leather with silver/grey stitching so should look great when it comes back.
Got my wheels off the car ready to have refurbed, they're not too bad but will look much better all painted up. So its currently on one of my spare sets of 2118's, looks like every other clio on cliosport now :quiet:

Turned my attention to the interior again, removed the interior door handles and door pulls.

These are the old bits

Swapped the ph1 handles for some ph2 ones i had spare

Started to prep the door pulls for paint, rubbed them back, my good the original paint or coating on them is horrible, really rubbery.

Managed to get them primed up tonight but thats as far as i got. Will get them flatted off tomorrow hopefully and get some colour on them.

Last part of the interior jigsaw is to either refurb the original gearknob or replace it, alot of work either way for minimal results.
Bought a load of bits this week to give it a good service. Full cambelt kit, aux belt and tensioner kit, NGK-R plugs, Rear Pagid discs and pads, front brembo HC discs and pagid pads. Just need to grab some oil and some filters and give it the once over when i can get it on the ramp. Needs a rear exhaust mount after looking under the car earlier too.

Hopefully i'll get it on the ramp on thursday night and do all the brakes, the exhaust mount and give it a general check over. After that it just needs serviced and its cambelt and aux belt changed. Jobs done!

Been a busy week, probably done 600miles in the clio which is unheard of as i dont use it for work. Had to pick some bits up yesterday from Durham so took the scenic route over the hills, safe to say there was some snow.

Deserted roads though so had some fun, really enjoy driving a 172 when its healthy and nothing is about to fall off! Problem with this time of the year is the roads are filthy and so was the clio.

Managed to get it on the ramp yesterday too, changed the oil + filter, plugs, discs and pads all round, new back box and rear mount. Still have the cambelt to do but didnt have time yesterday.

Gave it wash earlier, back to silver again. Another 'meets ......' photo aswell, my new toy for the summer, more details coming at some point.

Just the cambelt left to do now, mechanically anyway. Still need to finish refurbishing the wheels and fit my steering wheel thats sitting waiting patiently.

not my garage no, it's my mates workshop, I did all the electrical work, lights, ramp etc and I can use it whenever. Anybody local that needs work done Mark is the best mechanic I know, couple of guys on here use him already. Pm me if you want his details.

Hold on.. Why is there a v6 on your drive?

needed to keep the rain off the drive and was all I could find + I can't get it in the garage as its full of my new kitchen!

Not a lot going on, just been using it over the winter, they really are great cars these, quick enough, good fun and economical.
I have got my F1's back from being refurbed, will get the Michelin PE2's back on them over the weekend and get them back on the car.

Need to give the car a proper clean as this weather is a pain for keeping it clean. Once thats done i might get a few nice scenic pics of it with a view to putting it up for sale. Want to get a nice Transporter for towing the race car and to sleep in while racing so this and possibly the V6 will go.

Got the last few jobs done on the car recently. Got the Snappy trimmed wheel on and a nicer Ph1 gearknob so the interior refresh is complete.

Refurbished the headlights, they weren't that bad just a little yellow, they've come up gret anyway and look like new.

Also got the Michelins put back on the F1's and bolted back on the car, they just so right on a Ph1. However after running the Uniroyal Rainsport 2's while these were being refurbed i'm not liking the extra road noise the PE2's bring.

The car is up for sale currently so got a few more pictures this morning during a rare let up in the weather. If it doesnt sell quickly i'm going to keep it as a toy for nice days in the summer etc instead of the V6 as its such a good car. That being said the link to the for sale thread is HERE Pics are just Iphone and Fotki seems to resize them and hence reduce the quality, need someone like Piers @Šįk to take some decent ones, anyway.
