Which Tablet?

  PH2 172
Hi Guys, looking to buy a tablet, and am swaying towards the Ipad 2. However, im kinda thinking perhaps i should wait for the samsung galaxy tab 10.1, or even some of the asus ones that are coming out.

Opinions?

There's nothing close to the iPad. Nothing at all.

Things are getting closer but the others (Playbook and Android things) just don't have the software or apps to be able to compete.

I've had a play with a couple and the iPad 2 was the clear winner for me. Wifi only as you can turn your iPhone into a hotspot and connect with that. (jailbreak may be required).

^^ This, I looked at the Tab and the Dell Streak before buying an iPad - they were both shat in comparison.

iPad, it works. Most of the competition don't, the ones that do don't have any apps.

dont see the point in tablets really...

i didnt really
till i got an Ipad

Great to use when away etc or even at home

i didnt bother with 3g as everywhere has wifi now

press the on button and its ready to go, much quicker than waiting for the pc to load up

i never come off the ipad now

Simply, coffee table computers, primarily for dicking around on facebook, playing angry birds etc.

For those times where switching on the console or Laptop is just too much like hard work.

:)

In their defence though, they do have uses, around the office here people run around with them between meetings. Minutes are automatically uplaoded and sent out, documents can be pulled from the network without any need to leave the room or call in PA's, oh, and they get to show off their new toy of course.

They'll be everywhere in a year or so, once mass-production is fully up to speed. Look at how laptop prices dived over the past 5/6 years. Well, aside from Apple of course, but they're a law unto themselves.

This, the only time I use my laptop is for iTunes and PS.

I 'didn't' either! But I have come around. Tablets are useless as a 'computer' they can't run proper software and a netbook half their price will run rings around them in every aspect of day to day computing. However try and do day to day computing on a netbook and its a slow affair, they simply don't have the power of even a cheap laptop!

As a pick up and play internet browser I think Tablets come into their own and given this is all you can use a netbook for (ok you can use photoshop, word etc but you wouldn't want to if you can help it) the tablet does make it a more pleasurable experience.

Which is why I'm buying a HTC Flyer when they become available!

Have to agree on the above comment. Went into a "Carphone Warehouse" today to see one. Had a play and was very impressed. Started talking to a sales woman and she had bought one herself that day. She let us play on her personal one which is more unlocked than the display model and was able to show me the "Blackberry integration" and tethering. Was very very surprised, the App market isn't the best. But its getting better and the apps I saw were good quality and I am now considering one over the Ipad 2.

Its specs are good and its smaller and a lot more mobile and easy in the hands. Really do give one a try its a nice surprise. God knows what one will be like long term but I'm sure we shall see some long term reviews pop up in the next few weeks/months.

Bear in mind that the Playbook has no native mail or calendar.

Very sh*t considering it's a Blackberry product. lol.

So if one were on the lookout for a tablet which is the best? Not including Apple products.

Why not an iPad out of interest?

Is it because you have used one, seen the excellent OS and brilliant app store and thought its really not for you?

This week I used an Andriod and it was terrible to use, the software is so clunky and crap. When I tried to add an event in the calendar it told me I had no calendar app installed, even though I was in the calendar app. As for the blackberry, their app store is pathetic, especially in the UK.

They are very good, used one quite a few times. Just like to know of the best alternative, for the only reason that I don't like Jobs and the way his company runs, no matter how good the product is. Anyone tested Sony's offering yet?

Apple Ipad2 without a doubt, but like you I wouldn't have one! At least not with my own money ;)

Next best are the droids, Motorola Xoom and Asus get 3.5/5 reviews, I may now wait to see what Sony has to offer later in the year!

It seems so stupid not buying a better product because you don't like a guy who works for the company producing it,

No offence but you really are cutting your own nose off to spite your face.

It's like me not watching Karl Pilkington because I don't like Ricky Gervais, I don't like Ricky but I still watch it because I enjoy the show. I don't start watching wish you were here because I want to watch a travel show not connected to Ricky.

I had a look at everything, chose the iPad 2 because it really wins hands down!

No contest, nothing comes close, it steals the show, wins your heart, takes your cash and splooges it all over itself like a dirty expensive wh0re that u hate to love!

ok I'll stop.

That's as maybe. I just want to know which is the best non Apple product. There are personal reasons I won't ever buy an Apple or an Acer product. I don't like the companies and the way they treat people who work for them.

Ok, that's a reason I can't really argue with. It's more justified than not liking jobs.

I personally would avoid the android ones at the moment, like I said before the software is buggy as hell on the one I used the other day which was running the latest version.

BB playbook is probably the best of the rest, even though IMO the app store isn't too good, but from what I've seen it does actually work properly.

Just remember that most companies have these china factories exploiting the poor to make cheap goods, infect the one your probably talking about doesn't just supply apple, they supply a lot of electrical manufacturers.
