press on your roof outside next to the sunroof frame check all way round see if a small gap opens probably the sponge seal failed and req's the roof removing to fit new seal
have you pulled a plug lead check for spark? they dont like low battery power as relays drop out and shut ecu down on cranking? if no spark is the fuel pump starting up when cranking??? pos crank sensor??

you are correct but 2 holes 1 is fuel in the other is vapour out and they may not be allowed to use a funnel & jerry can like us mere clubmen rallyists their systems may have to stay sealed while filling
you could suffer fuel tank pressurizing if the purge canister is not connected as when you are cruzing the engine ecu pulses the purge canister and looks at the up stream lambda value to see if there is any pressure/vapour in the tank if it sees no change it will not try to purge the tank ...
