Spax (coilover rear setup)
Reason for purchase?
Wanted something better/more focused than stock shocks with Eibachs, and these were at the right price bracket/spec
Review of fitment and dealings with supplier?
Instructions a bit confusing, but easy to fit/sort. Bought from...
It is indeed.
Given my experience with the spax setup I have on the Clio, I'd say that the spax is a bettter setup.
What sort of price bracket is Spax quoting?
Tough one then.
As I said they are ok, but not great. I personally wouldn't put them on another car but lack of choise & budget might take you down that route.
They have decent support in the UK and parts for them aren't expenssive so could do worse.
Used them on my Evo (used the inverted setup). They where ok but not great.
A few noises from them and they felt cheap on how the car dealt with imperfections (is the best way I can describe them).
6 /10 for me. (for comparison the ASTs I had on my Imprezas where a lot better 8-9/10 but also a...
You need a resistor so that the Airbag ecu thinks you've still got one in. Otherwise you'll get the airbag light.
If you get the right kit/boss, it'll come with it.
Somethink like...
They are a deffinate improvement over the std cup setup (I had std shocks with eibach proline on), and with the spax setup is both sharper to drive and rides better.
They do appear to be a nice setup.

On a Clio the addition of one to the rear, stiffens up the rear axle, which reduces understeer, body roll, and makes the car feel sharper/turn in easier (esp in the dry).
They go for about £160 new.
Most people that got them rate them...
1st thing that strikes me: why have you got the oem bearing in there? The K-tec mount has got a spherica bearing to replace it.
2nd need a better pic of the mount to check thet you've got the k-tet spacer and nut in.
I also like the Spax setup, but appreciate that they are out of your budget.
New withing budget the best option appears to be the Vmax ones, but I prefer a decent set of springs and good oem shocks over them it terms of ride/handling. (how low do you want to go?). Second hand might be something...
What is your budget? What you consider silly to some might be perfectly acceptable. Also what are you after from your coilovers (handling, looks, road, track etc)?
They are easy to adjust, slacken of the nut, twist bolt to the desired direction, but you'll need a gauge to know where you are.
You can get a cheap camber gauge from the likes of e-bay and set them up yourself, just remember that changing camber will also affect your toe-in/out so you'll need...
A bit a patience needed. Henk tends to get back to you at the early hours of the morning, but he gets back to you and he'll help as much as he can.
At least that's my experience (just put the 8200 series software and 98ron calibration on mine :approve: )
ET is the wheel offset from it's centreline, so the lower the number the more the wheel will sit towards the outside of the car.
SO ET 38.5 will sit further out to ET 45 provided that both are the same width.
