Had a 172, sold it, got a WRX, sold it, got an Evo IV (still have it) and then got an M3 E46 (still have it). And the moment I had the chance to buy my 172 back, I took it. Poor little thing, it wasn't properly cared for while it was away from home. Took it in and now it's back in shape :) Tons...
Quite far, in Bucharest, Romania :)
Also, just realised I used US MPG when doing the conversion from l/100 km (what the car shows).
172 (used by gf): 28 mpg in the daily town commute
My 182: 22 mpg, same commute
It's winter, but still something seems fishy. Just wanted to know if there are...
Hello guys,
just bought a 2nd hand 182. Had a couple of problems, but I figured nothing too bad. Fixed some.
Now, I've arrived to a tricky one. In short:
- 18 mpg in my daily commute (girlfriend has my old 172 and over the same commute she's averaging 24 mpg so a huge difference)
- a slight...
From what I know the differences are:
- different springs (and shocks?)
- different anti roll bars (thicker)
- quicker sterring rack
However, it would be super cool if somebody could confirm this. It would mean that in theory you could put the cup suspension (springs, ARBs) on a non-cup car...
We did a run with the VVT unplugged and it was 20 bhp lower. The VVT is activated between 1800 - 7300 rpm. The stan alone ECU is controlling the solenoid, indeed.
You mean you would NOT expect big gains to the peak figure? :)
Yes, tried going up and down.
Indeed, the matching is not very smooth. As in I'm pretty sure there are differences of up to 2mm around there. But overall could trumpets + length + correct matching make up for ~25 bhp?
Is it...
I can machine up some trumpets. From what I gather I'm targeting as much length as the space allows me, right? Of course, allowing a one piece filter on top of all the trumpets :)
The AFR is about 13.0 at high rpm, as for the advance we're at 27 degrees. We tried going further (28, 29) but the...
Hi Cr33do,
just before going to work I snapped a couple of pictures of the thingie. Here they are:
Some answers to your questions:
- I'm not using trumpets, but I could machine those up quite easily. Didn't figure they are so important. I mean, are they? :) Speaking of which, should I...
Hello,
bought a Clio 172 MK2 2nd hand a couple of years ago and about 3 months ago we decided to do a rather strange project on it, namely add the throttle bodies from a BMW M3 E36 :)
After a bit of work and redoing the positioning of various elements like the power steering pump, doing a...
Hello,
well, the title kinda says it all. Let's say I'm just passing a lovely speed bump. I'm in 2nd around 1700 rpm and I'm acceleration slowly just after I've passed it. Between 1800 ~ 2100 rpm, roughly, there's a slow vibration, like the engine is move too much and it transmits this...
A-ha, so it's about expanding due to heat. Good to know, even if - from what I gather - it's not 100% verified :)
Anyway, fixing them was a good "understand how the brakes work" learning session. Quite useful, I'd say :)
Thanks!

Managed today to find time and look at the things. The pads were filed, but not enough, they were moving with quite a bit of effort. Took a file and worked a bit on them so that they move easily and also removed the shims and everything looks ok now.
However, just to understand a bit the thing...
Thanks both for the fast replies!
I didn't do the installation myself. Can you please give me a couple more details about this operation so that I can ask the mechanic if he did it or not (not a native EN speaker myself so the more details are given the more I understand) :)
I'll check...
