Does anyone know how to check/topup the 1.4 16v Clio auto transmission?

Oh dear...the timing belt in my 1949 Morris Minor may need changing...

You can say what you like...even if the chain gets noisy you can change it before your engine gets trashed...the belt gives no warning. I cannot believe some of the remarks I have read here. They use belts because they are cheaper to produce and admittedly have the benefit of quieter...

For strength and durability you really cannot compare a rubber belt with a chain.

The introduction of the timing belt signalled a severe compromise on reliability; although the Ford OHC engine of the late 60s and onwards had a timing belt but did not suffer damage if the belt gave up. I wonder why they do not use this system.

Yes, but at least a noisy chain is not going to mess up your engine; i have heard of some smaller-engined Clios having their belts shot at as little as 36,000 miles.

That suggests air...it may leak...the good old chain was so reliable....or push rods with gear to gear contact!

I've always thought the worst development in the modern engine is the timing belt...I think I read somewhere that Nissan have switched back to chains.

...unless you change the pulleys!!

I think I will write to Eurocarparts and ask exactly what this timing chain is for.

I have just noticed that Eurocarparts list a timing chain for the Clio at around £9.00. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it possible to change the belt to a chain?

Thank you for the information; but this for draining the fluid. What about checking and topping up?
