So been a while but here are some recent pics
So glad I removed the auxiliary fuel tank as would never have seen the full extent of the rust in there!
Starting to cut it out. Found some solid metal, but Road grime and masses of old mud has got up inside and rotted it from the...
Wondering if anyone can help? I managed to break one of the piston cooling jets. Anyone have any at all?
Seem to be virtually impossible to source! If the bolt can be included that would be ideal as that seems to have gone missing as well
So starting to prep the block ready for the rebuild.
Also cleaned surface rust of the front cross member and primed it. Just getting some practice in for the more complicated parts.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments!
So the block was acid dipped and then caustic treated. Considering the state of it before hand it looks like a new block. I don’t know exactly how the caustic side works but it apparently helps with rust removal. Also helps the prep to paint the block. It...
Well it has been a while and the bottom end of the engine has been away being cleaned and bored. It looks so much better now.
Had the crank cleaned up and polished as well.
Also new pistons purchased due to the state of the old ones and the reboring.
Just...
So engine basically fully stripped down. Can now see why it was ceased!
Going to send the block off for cleaning, in the hope all the corrosion in that bore can be removed then assess the what next!
Strip down of the engine started. Not liking the state of the water pump nor thermostat housing!
This is not looking to great.
Thermostat housing.
I am a tad messy!
Also not sure if this looks right.
The step down between the tappets. Cannot find a picture of a head...
So been a few weeks but today was the day the engine finally came out!
The gearbox was not the easiest thing to remove due to 2 annoying nuts underneath, but got there in the end!
And then mounted on the new toy!
Strip down of the engine to start next weekend! Plus will need...
So been looking at tidying the loom I brought home.
Looks like Stuart Little was peckish.
Started to retake clean it up. Also gave me a chance to cut out the knawed parts and solder in new pieces.
Still a fair amount to do.
Excuse the mess I am a slob.
Also removed all connections...
So small update today as was fighting bolts again. Got the ancillary loom out of the engine this weekend and will be testing continuity and giving it a tidy up. Removed the fuses and there is a little corrosion so need to clean this. Also removed a little more metal but forgot to get pics...
It’s fine. I want to remove it to go through the cabling as it is shocking. Can tell it’s gone through various hands as it has been cut into for various fixes over the years. Want to tidy it up as well.
Pretty dull update this evening. Due to having to drill out rounded and sheered bolts. Wiring loom is pretty much off the engine. Just two more connectors, 1 being the lambda I think and the second is at the front below the inlet manifold. Cannot get my fat fingers in there.
Other than that...
Not taken the belts off so May look at that as the alternator does look pretty bad. Shall see how things look this weekend but the next step will no doubt be removing the rocker to investigate further.
