I recently borrowed my brothers 360bhp k04'd Mk5 golf gti for a couple of months. Felt like a time machine compared to the clio. When i got back into the clio it felt pedal powered by comparison.. it was only when i had it near the end of 3rd gear in the twisties that i realised its not that...
It wont be engine mounts. At best i'd say its a combination of clutch, throw out bearing and cracked exhaust. Failing gearbox usually presents itself as a grinding between gears.
It made sense for me as i'd let my policy renew at a silly price. Also they let me off the cancellation fee which was a bonus. So in 3 months i'll re-insure the car at nearly half the price.
Ive cancelled the clio's insurance as its a second car. Once the garage is tidy im taking the engine out to do a number of jobs that dont really need doing.
