My car is a mark II so the standard offset is 48.5mm so I though going to 42mm would give me more clearance if anything i.e. track will be wider by 6.5mm each side.

I've bought a set of Buddy Club P1 wheels (15x6.5" 42mm offset) only to find they don't fit over the rear calipers (my car is a 2003 172). I only found this out after I had tyres fitted to them so there's probably little chance of getting my money back for them...
