For those that are interested, the airbox is a ph2 v6 box, the exact same as the 197 cup car, R3 maxi cars etc. the air box and piping was about £90 all in exc. the redtop battery. The AB doesn't weigh anymore than the orginal, required none of the original metal brackets etc. Didn't really care...
See picture below, the subframe tensions it across the car by pushing it down slightly, it doesn't weigh very much at all. I've paired it up with some home made carbon arch liners too. (Front sections only).
Only picture I could find sorry...
I made my own carbon/kevlar splitter, it runs directly arch to arch underneath but doesn't protrude out like the one above.
It has made a positive difference to how planted the car feels above 100 jelly beans, much more stable.
Try the diagnostic method in this thread. The short shouldn't be an issue.

I went through several alternators before working it out it wasn't the alternator.
Hope this helps.

When you pull the leads off the coil pack have a look around the posts for any sign of charring - any hairline black marks indicate a problem 'down stream' (water or oil around the plugs etc.) as it'll be earthing itself to the coil pack base.
If the coil pack looks clean, it could be the...
Might not be the alternator, there's not much to go wrong really unless you've done galactic mileage - much more likely to be wiring related.
Get yourself a cheap digi meter no more than £15 from fleabay. They're decent investment and without it you'll be guessing what's wrong
I must be the 0.00000000000001% - oil in the plug valley (knackered cam cover seal) caused mine to miss fire like a bit*h - I take there was no sign of this when you removed leads / plugs?
Worth a mention before you buy a new injector!
First double check all the battery/alternator connections.
If good, measure voltage across the battery and the alternator with a digi meter - you want higher than ~12.5v at both. Less at the battery means you have dodgy wiring and/or connections somewhere in the starter/charging circuit/earth...
