Got this problem on my 51 plate mk2 is it in rear brakes?

Let's revive this thread... Got a 172 51 plate, got same prob revs drop and car cuts out when the clutch goes in. I've been everywhere to try and get this sorted but no one knows. Had new spark plugs, crank sensor, battery, coil over, drilled the three holes! Changed oil, new lambda sensor but...

I have a clio 172 2001 model and basically what happens is I will be driving along absolutely fine and next minute the speedo will go from what ever speed I'm doing straight down to 0 and stay like that for about 5 mins! I can stress enough how annoying and dangerous this can be and I'm unsure...
