The column is probably 360 degrees out of centre. Just disconnect the column and with snap on reading steering angle position turn steering wheel until you get zero degrees, the steering wheel should now be central. With wheels dead centre reconnect the column
Well I Say nothing needs doing. An inspection to find the cause of the catching maybe necessary. A new bump stop would also be a good idea especially if you want to track the car
Shocks don't leak oil up to the top mounts. They drop down onto the struts. That looks like someone has lubricated the top mounts as you have spherical ball top mounts fitted. Nothing needs doing at all
Swinging the alternator down like I suggested won't give much purchase on the water pump either. Your top photo looks the best way to go without buying custom parts.
What you can do is modify the original alternator bracket by chopping bits off. With enough modification you will be able to swing the original alternator right down. Then can a bracket to allow you to adjust the tension. You will probably need to also make a notch in the crossmember. I did. I...
Take the head off and replace any valve that's hit a piston. You'll see the witness marks. Even if they look straight always replace a valve that's hit. Check the guides carefully to see if any are cracked or worn. Should be the best solution.
