Clio 200 advice

Hi, I am looking to purchase my first clio 200. I have test drove one which has a weird problem where I do not have to pull up the collar on the gearstick to select reverse! I thought I was selecting 1st gear but it was reverse. Is this an easy fix or something inside the gearbox itself has failed. If anyone can help it will be really appreciated. As I like the car and looking forward to be part of the community.
Cheers.

If its that. I guess you'll be able to feel if the spring has broken by moving the reverse lifter up and down. Do you have a link to an advert for the car?

Hi, thanks again for replying. There is no spring at all so I am sure this is the problem. Unfortunately the car I purchased has passed an MOT a few weeks ago, yet the headlight bulb is hanging in the lens with nothing to hold it in place. I am not sure what is missing? The car also pulls to the left. The owner has said this has been an ongoing issue, he has not been able to fully resolve. It now has left me with concerns. I do not know how it can pass an MOT with no fixed headlight bulb. What could be causing it to steer left could potentially cost me a lot???
I am gutted I bought it.

It's been a while since I fought with the headlamp bulbs so I can't recall how they are held in.
For the pulling to the left I'd get the tracking checked by somewhere decent and see if they can identify anything bent or worn, hopefully it'll just need an adjustment and it'll be OK.
