I don't think it will work if you try doing it online. My insurance and tax both expire at the end of Dec, every year when I try and tax online it says I have no insurance. It obviously checks the to/from dates of the insurance and the start date of the tax you're applying for. Post office ftw ;)

Does this give you details of any advisories?

If you do hit an animal, does your insurance pay out? I would imagine something like a deer would make quite a mess :-/

I use AVG and have done for years, I agree with this though. I usually go to website, fail at finding free version, back to google "avg free", click direct link, then during install decline several attempts at making my copy a trial version, yahoo toolbars etc. Still good program IMO
