    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Did Snetterton on Tuesday. The car was mega. Reset the trip computer before setting off, and managed 340 miles in total. 130 mile journey to the track, topped up the car to full with £26 from the Esso outside, and then did the entire day and drove back on one tank. What a joke :ROFLMAO: By far...

Huge. Like a totally different car now.

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Took the car to see Alex at AW Saturday last week to get some camber dialed in and the alignment sorted - I'd been driving with the steering will pissed the entire time up till now. He fitted some Eibach camber bolts and got it to roughly -2.5 degrees. Only 1 shim was needed at the rear drivers...

Was mentioned in the speech. "I'd like to thank my new father-in-law for letting me marry the love of my life..... for those that haven't seen her, she's parked outside with blue ribbons on." Got people laughing 😂

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Something I’ve had planned for a while; finally getting married after 15 years. Naturally, after 5 Cups during that time, it seemed fitting that this one was the wedding car 😂 Got Snetterton booked for August and alignment booked in for 27th of this month. As it was the big day, I tried to...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Not much to update, but I've booked Snetterton for the 13th of August which is exciting. Took the car the scenic route to Birling Gap yesterday - the car was faultless. No real plans to change it up with mods, other than getting the alignment dialed in properly with AW Motorworks in late July...

    ‘Claud’ The RB 182

Agreed. Looks mega on the white 2118's.

172 cuts out at low RPM

Could be the MAP sensor. Is it secure against the manifold? may even be worth trying that first. If there's no misfire, throwing money at ignition related items seems a waste. I may be wrong.

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Turns out I was looking in the wrong place. Got my brother to take it to work. The ball joints where the incorrect type, and where moving separately from the arms. Not great! It’s ok now, however, I’ll likely get some second hand Cup arms as spares just incase any wear occurs again. In the...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

So, i've taken both shock absorbers out, and unassembled both. The passenger side spring looks like it had been compressed to the point that the bump stop had split in two. Should the spring be compressing to the point that the coils rub together? (pic below) Measures taken so far to try and...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Yes from memory, this is exactly the setup/order. I didn’t realise there were two types of top mount until researching this past week. Every 172 I’ve owned has already had the updated design without the spacer but. Cheers

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Thanks all. Have tried and tested yet, but, I did manage to move the engine forward a fair bit yesterday. Also had a chance to photograph top mount setup. Does all look correct? These are the top hats. The nut appears to spin on one of them but is fixed on the other. No idea if that’s...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Sooo... asking csnet to look into their crystal balls on this one. I've replaced the dogbone mount, lower gearbox mount, tightened the bell housing rubber mount, New upper gearbox mount and engine mount with powerflex insert, however, I am getting a major knock and movement motion from the...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Spa is the best track i've ever driven around. Absolutely mega. The car did 800 miles in total, stopping off at Bruges, Spa, Brussels and then home again, but not without drama. 10 laps / three sessions in, the car developed a knock. I wasn't sure where from, so decided to jack the front up and...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Update on the car as I had an opportunity to take it for a proper drive today. Everything is mega, for an OEM Cup at least. I assume that it drives “like new” as just about everything suspension wise is new. Steering feels direct, feedback is fantastic. Driver engagement is a solid 10/10. Noise...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

A few gremlins presenting themselves, as to be expected. All ok with the exception that it sometimes doesn’t want to start. I just get a click and no crank. The car wants to fire though, maybe after the 3rd attempt. Other times it fires immediately. Have checked battery terminals. Tracking is...

172 Cup - handbrake cables part no and availability?

Got mine from ECP, Pagid. The passenger side doesn't pass through the rear beam correctly but fits otherwise. I just cable-tied it in place instead.

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Update on the car, it’s working! This weekend has been an absolute slog, and it’s not just me that’s been working on the car. I had the help of two others to bleed brakes, tighten rear beam and get the car back to where it is. Pleased to say that is drives superbly, bar the tracking being way...

    Anyone know this 172 Cup?

Exactly this. Hard pushed to find one that isn’t mullered. At least the back jacking points are ok

Cheers. Road trip to Belgium and track day at Spa on the 8th April is what's pushing it along!

Haha, Dry days only is the plan, but I am not too precious if I am honest! Cheers dude. If anyone knows of a stealth exhaust system for sale let me know. I may have secured a BTM exhaust, but not sure. After some OEM injectors too.

More photos. Had a successful day overall, even with the rubbish weather. Main hurdle to overcome currently is getting the car into gear. First discovered the issue after trying to tighten the drive shafts to the hubs. Clutch seems to engage/disengage ok. Just won’t quite pop into gear. Might...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

More bits done and the weekend isn’t even over! Had a late one on Thursday. With the help of a friend we managed to lift the rear beam onto the car. Had to drop the tank, then slide the bolts through the brackets. Bit of a faff. Today, I rebuilt the front subframe. Absolute pain getting...

    Clio 182 Turbo

Heat was the biggest issue with mine. With an OEM radiator, my coolant temperature gauge was rising as fast as my speedo along the long straight at Snetterton. If I did it again, I'd keep it NA (which I am). Boost is a LOT of fun though. Particualrly in such small, lightweight cars. After about...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

More progress on the car, but nowhere near as much as I’d have hoped at this stage. I wanted to get the rear beam back on, but don’t have a press for the bearings. I’ve sprayed underneath and used a 2K lacquer to finish. FYI traditional 2K lacquer with a hardener that you release into the can...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Slow progress with the poor weather at the moment. Took the box out last night in order to fit a new clutch, just because it’s easier to do now than later. Turns out it was ok. Never mind. It can be a spare 🤣. Also sprayed up the underside with stonechip. Pretty even coverage at this point...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Not much done this weekend due to waiting on the powdercoaters for bits. Gaskets turned up for the manifolds and with the hardware back from the platers, we cracked on with re-assembling it all. Really happy with the look. Hopefully I can keep on top of cleaning it and it will stay fresh. Will...
