Hey Adam... Ahh, that's a blast from the past - I remember us briefly talking! You dodged a bullet there, <18 months later global IT was outsourced to IBM, total mess. Glad you're in a good role now!
I've had a number of people contact me and set-up meetings since posting on LinkedIn yesterday...
I actually work for a US based company, they're global / fortune 500... I am in a niche position (Worked my balls off for the last 5yrs to reach!), currently leading a team of engineers across the US!
I looked across the job market this week, fired applications at a couple of roles, although...
Currently going through workforce reductions... 10% cut across the entire company.
I have a meeting at 4PM today with my manager and HR to discuss my 'status' - Been playing on my mind all weekend, I've been through several lay-off cycles before, but this one feels different - I've seen people...
Yup, that's our 'problem'... We're BIG and very intertwined with VMware products. I couldn't begin to imagine the complexity of detaching from them and migrating to a different product line.
I've been dipping my toe into containerisation lately... Albeit the VMware / Broadcom flavour - TKG (Tanzu Kubernetes Grid).
Looking to bring the offering to several edge locations, I've seen a gradual increase from our development groups requesting the capability.
This comes up on a regular basis at work... The answer, and our company posture is simply "No" - Even to the likes of Microsoft , Cisco etc.
The only 'approved' method we support is an internal employee hosting a Teams / Webex etc. meeting, and providing screen sharing, with the employee fully...
Worked in the IT industry for 15yrs... Haven't done support work for 7~yrs, yet still have family members who think I "fix computers" and occasional phone calls along the lines of:
"My phone isn't working, can you sort it"
"the TV isn't on the HMD, HD1, HDMI1 thing, any idea"
"What's a good...
Just ordered an S24 Ultra to replace my S21 Ultra... Nothing wrong with the S21, but the offer from Samsung was decent!
20% off the S24 base price.
£260 trade-in discount.
£200 cash back offer.
Free Galaxy Watch6 (£289 value).
05e198701a.
TPS would only supply me 05e198701 (Which is just a replacement actuator arm and circlip)
It's a repair kit to supposedly stop turbo wastegate / actuator rattle... Very common on the 1.5tsi engine, but little information online - I wanted to validate the fix actually works...
Cliosport long shot... Does anybody here work for Seat, or the wider VW group?
I am trying to order a repair kit, but my local dealer is stupid. I tried TPS, who offered to help, but ordered the wrong part, then gave up because I am not trade / the part number doesn't reference to our VIN -...
I've had a few funnies...
- Senior manager on a call, forgot to mute himself at one point... Soon realised he was on the toilet, dropping his arse out - Full on pebble dash of the porcelain.
- Once walked into a colo DC, found a technician with trousers round his ankles, leant against a rack...
Oh yeah, I totally agree.
The vast majority of our core / 'modern' systems utilise SSO and MFA.
Although, I work for a 100+ year old manufacturing company... I have weekly "WTF" moments, when finding something tied to a legacy system or process - After prodding you normally a response of "I...
Recently configured and deployed my first VMware vSAN cluster... VMotion'd all the production VM's over from the legacy hosts last night - No complaints, nor did anybody on-site notice :)
Got the process nailed down, encountered a weird issue with multiple datastores being created - Logged a...
Seen it many times...
Been there... Severs named after knights of the round table, Star Trek characters, Trains or some random location abbreviation.
And pretty much nothing documented, all tribal knowledge - This was an Enterprise organisation FFS!
Worked in IT for 17~ years (Sometimes feels like 50 years!)... Started as an application analyst in 2007, cut my teeth and progressed into operations / site support for an engineering consultancy, moved into an infrastructure engineer role on the server & storage side, dabbled in data centre...
