Thanks for the reply. Are all pahse 2 8V gearboxes OK to fit to a 16V lump? I've found a JB1 184 box locally which is cheap enough. Excuse all the questions, I'm used to BMWs! I drained and filled the fluid first and the problem is the same. Could a selector issue cause the whining noise, only...- Imrie

...to add, the current gearbox doesn't have a speedo sensor in the gearbox so I assume it is ABS driven. Any problem with using a gearbox fitted with a speedo sensor? A case of fit with sensor and ignore? Cheers- Imrie

Hello, my girlfriend has a 2001 1.2 16V Clio and the gearbox is whining in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th gears. I want to swap the gearbox out for a speedy repair.
