People dont look down on the VX.. thats for sure. It depends, most people on here buy their 172/182 because of the driving credentails... apply the same theory... one clear winner..

There are plenty 172s to choose from. Would be prepared to wait until Jan, you have no gaurantees of sale. (just my view)

Well looks at the postive of getting a new car mate. They should provide you with a courtsey car, if not use one of the companys. Make sure you get a letter for your private reg as well.

I think the reason they are so competitive between owners is because they are so close, both owners will have considered buying the other prior to making the choice and feel defensive... As rhys says, there are those of us who have had both, and know the score... lol.
