As others have said, focus on suspension, other handling mods and brakes.
Then lighten it if it is track focused.

That looks like some womble has managed to put the nut on “upside down”. Can you get a set of needle tooth pliers down there and unscrew it just one or two threads?

The PMS is one of the very earliest ones, hence it not self centring and is stiff.
I never bothered swapping the bearing out because i’d got used to it, but as others have said you can upgrade the bearing on it.
