    DIY zinc plating kit

I've used platers before on other projects, there's a lot of fasteners, brackets etc I'd like plated for my 172 but I don't really fancy sending the plater a load of stuff and getting it back in one box all mixed up to sort out, so I'm thinking of doing it myself this time.. anyone got any...

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Got the gearbox off, engine onto the stand and tidied the garage this morning, I've arranged to drop the gearbox and new diff off to @NorthloopCup next time I'm home. Ideally I'd like to get some use out of the car this year so I'll try to progress things as fast as possible with limited time...

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Progress on this has been slower than glacial drift, due to being at sea for nearly 200 days last year, then back straight into winter.. I've run out of excuses and with four days at home for Easter I've got the engine and gearbox out Took about 5hrs all in, first time taking the engine out...

What's your favourite car related YouTube channel?

I've seen a few of that Josh Gresswell's videos, he seems a likeable guy and looks like he does alright work. Alex on the other hand comes across as a smug, smarmy little c**t and is immensely unlikeable, to the point where the sight of him is irritating, he's like a poverty Shmee... You...

Project Binky - mini 4x4 turbo celica engine

I find them infuriating, it's like they deliberately go out of their way to ignore the plethora of off the shelf solutions and make things hard for themselves. Yeah feeding solder through a 3d printer and fannying around with Arduinos makes for watchable content but it's proper Heath Robinson...

    Black 197 DG07 *** Team valley

Spotted on the slip road off the A1 in traffic today, really clean looking 197 on Cup 2 tyres, anyone on here?

    Show me your extinguishers

I'm really not a fan of those fire stick extinguishers, you have to get pretty close to the fire to smother them and there's no cooling effect either. For occasional track use I'd want a 2.4L AFFF extinguisher as a minimum, for something that's dedicated track use then I'd go plumbed in and...

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Got my wheels back from powder coat yesterday, gave them a coat of Gtechniq C5 today so I can get them back on and get the car off axle stands over the weekend. Spare calipers are back from Cerakote too, so I'll get them built back up at some point I've ordered some more new parts too, wheel...

Clio 172 Cup auction on PistonHeads, 62k miles

Maybe another 5-10 years? Maybe never.. the 205 is a much better known car, pretty much anyone remotely interested in cars knows what one is, lots of people have no idea what a 172 Cup is.

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Been a long time since I've updated this.. I've been away working for most of the year so the Clio has been under a cover getting started occasionally by the Mrs, now I'm back I've got round to fitting the plates I bought last year Other than that I'm just collecting parts at the moment...

    Paintwork pricing

I had the rear bumper, side strips and door bullets painted on my 172 cup this year, painted off the car so inc labour for removal/refit. £280 all in. I painted most of my bike myself, its no cheaper than paying someone if you've got to buy everything from scratch, once you've got a stock of...

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

nah it won't, I've decided (for now) to use the stock manifold and the miltek DP, keeps it more original and it means I don't have to fabricate a link pipe with a cat in for the 182 manifold

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

yeah, the original seal was leaking, and so is the TND seal kit.. the box is whining and needs a rebuild anyway, no big deal

    ***How much is it worth?***

    7k if it wasn't categorised, 20-30% less for a cat D and 30-40% less for a cat C

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Good and bad news.. Bad news, the gearbox is pissing out oil, about 100ml a week, it's got a drip tray under it on the drive at the moment and when you drive it you can smell the drops of gearbox oil presumably being blown off the under tray onto the downpipe/cat and burning off. I've topped...

What are peoples experiences with sports cats on 1.2 16v?

There's no such thing as a 'cat clean', it's not like a DPF that has a regen cycle. It's a 1.2 Clio, don't waste a penny on it, save up for a 172/182 if you want to stay in a Clio.

    What's the highest's price paid for a Clio 200?

That's lovely, I definitely wouldn't pay that for it though. I must have read the EVO back to back test with the Peugeot Sport 208 GTi 100 times when I was away at sea, then bought the 208 as soon as I got back, cracking car, wish I had kept it tbh..

    Looks good, congratulations 👏

    Carbon bonnet re laqure

Sounds like they're not cleared at all tbh, plenty of carbon stuff is just de-moulded and polished, the resin will discolour over time as it's not UV stable.

    Carbon bonnet re laqure

If it's just gone dull and there's no other defects I'd probably give it a quick DA over with 800 then clear it, you'll get a good idea whether it's ready for clear or not by cleaning it off and giving it a wet down with panel wipe.
  23. M

    Carbon bonnet re laqure

I've done a fair bit of restoring carbon parts, it's just a case of flatting it back and re clearing it, but you really want to be using 2k clear as 1k rattle can stuff is rubbish. If you haven't got access to a compressor, gun and a mask then it'll be cheaper finding a bodyshop that can do it...

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

The Mapco/TND selector seal kit arrived today, loads better than the Febi kit, in that it actually fits. Got that fitted straight away and refilled the gearbox with the correct amount of Millers 75w/80 gearbox oil. Drove it to the gym this afternoon, everything feels fine. The box still...

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

I started to scrub the grotty sump with Jizer and scotchbrite but quickly got bored and took it somewhere local to get vapour blasted while I waited, much better. New Victor Reinz gasket fitted too. Mating face on the block cleaned up nicely (after this pic..) And sump refitted with...

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Off work for a couple of weeks so decided to get a couple of jobs done, the previous owner had mentioned a leaky selector seal and weeping sump gasket when I bought it so I knew what was coming... Bought a Febi split seal kit (I know...) And some brass bushes Got the Jizer out and cleaned...

    Rod Bearings in situ

I'm going to drop the sump off my 172 cup soon to change the gasket, and as with anything we get 'while you're in there...' so now I'm looking at ARP rod bolts and possibly new big end bearings too. This isn't a 'how do I?' it's more of a 'should I?', I'm capable of putting a motor together...

    Cup 172 Stickers

yeah, I have fitted them as a temporary measure as my OEM cup badges were knackered.. I've got a pair of new OEM ones but I'm keeping them until I get the car painted as they're NLA. for a fiver they're totally fine.

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

I've put another few hundred miles on the Clio in the last week or so, had a snapped spring on the daily last weekend so I've had to press it into daily duties this week.. driving up to work with no AC and cruise control was miserable, but being able to take it on some amazing roads up here...

Fitted the whiteline ARB this afternoon, rear beam is a bit scruffy but it's fine for now, I will get round to getting it blasted and powder coated at some point but for now I've given the beam and the ARB a wipe over with some ACF50. Cleaned off the awful sticky remains of the soft...
