They are just maximising profits.
High price + cheaper tech = maximised profits.
They'll build in line with customer expectations (let's be fair most customers won't notice or don't care).
Obviously they didn't deem the retina worth the increased price/financial hit.

The company I work for (Bank of America) supply all home workers with Brother and HP printers.
Either or make should be up to the job.
I know HP ink is relatively cheap and widely available in comparison.

I guess if you enjoy reading, basic web browsing, emailing etc then this is the tablet for you.
Cheap as chips and comes with hdmi connectivity.
Screen is supposed to be great too.
I've heard it's very limited from a customisation perspective.
