The whole mining thing is f-ing crazy. RTX 3060Ti are routinely going for over a grand on eBay. A grand! You can see the impact mining is having because the 3070 is going for basically the same money and they achieve pretty much the same mining hash rate. Pretty much all the cards on eBay are...
Yeah, that's going to be kicking out not far off the heat from a one bar electric fire! (edit: showing my age there.... when's the last time you saw a one bar radiant electric fire :ROFLMAO: )
Card on it's own is pulling circa 200W so I'm guestimating 300w to be on the paranoid side. My tariff is 16.7p per kw/h.
Might grab a wattage meter out of curiosity at some point.
Thought I’d turn the fans right up, got the VRAM temp down to 66. Not worth the extra noise IMO.
When air cooled, what I’m doing now just wasn’t possible. The card would be thermal throttling with the VRAM at 108C at a lower overclock (not that I tried at those temps for more than a few...
GPU water cooling blocks arrived yesterday. A bit scary ripping apart a card that you know you can’t replace but it all went well.
After 12 hours of mining, the memory is sat at a rock solid 70C and that’s with a 1200mhz overclock. Very happy with that, especially given the fans are set to be...
Very nice!
I do wonder what the thermals and noise will be like though, that’s a lot of cooling to ask of a convection setup with a single top fan to pull air through. I’d hope Corsair would make a decent stab at it though.
Bit odd that it looks like they have fans mounted on what they say is...
Finally got round to breaking my old PC up and getting rid of the stuff I had lurking in the cupboard too. Bunch of parts for sale here if there's any interest:

Janky water cooling rig being leak tested :)
I wanted an external all in one unit but no-one supplies them in the UK any more so I hit eBay. £30 for a used Fractal Design case and £120 for used EK D5 pump/reservoir and a nice hefty EK radiator. Run some extension leads for power, wait for the...
Sweeeet! Thanks for that.
I'm building my own slightly ghetto watercooling setup at the moment so I will no doubt be kicking myself when they come out and make it all easy :D
@Greeny. AFAIK the problem with AIOs for the 3080 and 3090 GPUs is there is too much variation - they need bespoke water blocks unless they’re 100% based on the reference design. Your Zotac will need a bespoke water block unless there’s a big enough market to start doing model-specific AIOs -...
I used some of these back when I had my 182 IIRC, they were definitely decent. Couldn't swear to how heavy they are, but definitely a lot lighter than the standard wheels.

Yep, you’re not wrong. I could probably shift the 3080 for at least £1500 on eBay and just break the rest for parts over time to turn a profit. I honestly thought about breaking the Alienware for parts but couldn’t face the hassle.
Had a bit of a benchmark session this morning and tracked the...
I had a good poke around it yesterday, overall I’m really impressed.
The cables are managed really well, everything is sleeved, and the components they’ve used are decent enough they’re just not retail branded. For example, the M2 SSD is a de-badged western digital part and the graphics card is...
OK so this is better.... a lot, lot better.
Things I like:
16Gb of dual channel 2400 DDR4 - bit stingy on the speed but at least it's not a single stick.
A proper full length three fan 3080.
PSU isolated from the rest of the case inside it's own shroud with a dust filter on the intake and the...
I’ve done it again.... ordered another pre-built. It’s an Acer with a much better spec than the Alienware but only a little bit more expensive.
Not sure I can cope with the “teenage gamer” look of the thing, but I can always hide it 😂
i7-10700K, 3080, decent sized case with plenty of big fans...
Alienware R10 is on it's way back to Dell, I returned it.
Honestly in a lot of ways it's a really nice bit of kit, case is really easy to work on etc, but bloody hell the noise levels are bad and it's all down to them using a chassis which will never cope with the thermal load without ramping...
Quite a bit, unfortunately, 2560x1440 is not far off double the number of pixels that the card has to push. It does depend where the bottleneck is in your setup though, if you're CPU-bound rather than GPU bound then the difference will likely be much smaller.
This covers it all pretty well...
Yessssssss....... Come to me 3080 gaming PC, come to meeeeeeeeeeeee
Then you can sit in the corner and get used for maybe a couple of hours a month, like my current gaming PC.
I now have 24Gb of RAM sat on my desk to go in the Alienware, which still hasn't hit production yet. Goddamn component shortages :censored:
Ah well, sometime in April......
I can't believe the GFX card insanity is actually getting worse, non-Ti 1080s going for £400+! What the hell! I may as...
I’ve just specced up a new Alienware Ryzen box, got a 10% discount code so it comes in at a decent price for the spec. I’ll need to add some extra memory as it only comes with one 8gb stick, but given that it’s only £35 to buy a matching stick vs the £80 Dell want I’ll take that 😂
Looks like...
Talk about scalper pricing, I'm on the discord channel for stockinformer (not that it's any use, everything sells out immediately) and here's the latest pricing from Very (yes, I know, I know, but still)
MSIGeForce RTX 3090 SUPRIM X 24G Ampere Graphics Card
£2299.99
MSIGeForce RTX 3080 SUPRIM...
Looks like the going rate for all the 30* cards bar the 3090 is basically 2x MSRP on eBay at the moment.
I feel sorry for anyone who's card goes bad at the moment, you basically either live with a dead PC, put some ancient card in there which is still at an inflated price or take it up the ass...
Seen some suggestions it’ll be April, but NVIDIA keep shifting the date so who knows.
I honestly don’t get why they keep adding variants when they can’t satisfy supply on their current range.
I’m almost at the point of changing my whole system as the most cost effective way to upgrade TBH...
