Retrofit an RS monitor from the 200s, they have an oil temperature gauge as well as other info. Someone successfully fitted one to a twingo, afaik, the mk2 twingo is based on the 1*2

Get an early 197 with no options, you can pick them up for £3/4k. There's no point paying a premium for a 200 or a nice 197 when you're going to strip it.

The 197s don't make 197bhp as standard so bare that in mind. You can however pick up early optionless 197s for £3/4k now. So that's a good starting point. Buy a cheap one, sell the interior, fit seats and a diff and enjoy the better out of the box handling and slightly newer car.

I imagine there will be a module you can plug in which will fold them in and out when the car is locked and unlocked. There's a module that does that on mk3 civics. I'll see if I can find one for you because it's not a bad idea tbh. Edit...
