95% of the time they fish your keys out through your letterbox without even putting the door through. If you're that worried in your own home that someone will come in and perform a massacre on you then you may as well hang your keys outside your front door with a note inviting them to take it...

Back on topic, it's very very rare that burglars etc will cause harm. Normally if you startle them they will run. I also don't think anyone is going to risk potentially murdering someone for a Renault Clio.

Ah, I've seen the OBD tools, mainly on the Fiesta ST's etc but OP had pointed out second time his dads house had been broken in to and they'd made off with the car so assumed they'd grabbed the keys from wherever he normally leaves 'em. It's a bit sh*t that you have to hide your car keys in...
