Couldnt think of a better way of explaining the effects lol.

Gains and loses revs more easily, so makes it more free reving, a bit like a decat does, but also means it maintains momentum less well, so for example going up a steep hill in the wrong gear would be more noticeable and have to change down sooner.

To unlock the car from outside though, does the central locking button on the key work? If not thats your issue, you need to repair/replace the key.
