Nah ... Im South Coast. Also need to find a repeatable solution since thinking I might actually hang onto this one for a while longer. My suggestion to my missus this evening that I simply trade it in for a V6 on March 1st didnt go down well (since I spent all my V6 money on her new car that she...
Trouble is finding such a place :( Also Ive already paid for the MOT - tho clearly £40 could be nothing compared with the costs of involving Renault.
I hate MOTs!! Was on a high having finally got my engine banging/vibration sorted this AM ... and then to fail MOT this PM in such a strange...
Thought about that (been stung before by relays behaving badly). However the fact that it all works just fine when the ignition is on suggested to me that it wasnt. Of course might be that theres more than one relay involved ... but certainly is a working relay down behind passenger side dash...
Agree ... and it might come to that. However will admit in absence of any info on the 172 (isnt a Haynes manual and so no wiring diagram) not quite ready to start that yet. Sorta believe there must be something more subtle going on here ...
Reckon its small enough to not cause harm. That said my tyres are totally worn out around the outer shoulders ...
... but also around the inner shoulders too. Just cant stop going round corners flat out since I got my Eibachs :)
Car just failed its 1st MOT for the most bizarre of problems! My hazard lights work fine when the ignition is turned on, but not when its off or the keys are out.
Has always worked this way - Im owner #2. Altho car was bought by owner #1 from Renault dealer believe its an import (no alarm). I...
Mk1s had Michelins. Hated them ... very hard compound so they went further but didnt grip as well, especially in the wet. F1s are much more fun, and wet grip is definitely improved, tho I did get a bit too cocky in the wet a few months after getting them and almost took my car off the side of a...
Trouble Ive got now is that I can go round corners so fast with my Eibachs on, that Im wearing the edges out of my tyres well before the middle 3/4. Even though edges can be less than 1.6mm, still reckon you need to have visible tread. Net is that my F1s have lasted about 7k. At least theyre...
Rear pads are worn out and discs look well worn - not sure itll make it thru MOT visual examination (if I can find an MOT centre who doesnt want my car all day long).
Any view ... assume OEM are good enough, or has anybody got a better suggestion? Plenty of forum discussion of disc/pad choice...
Not on the Pro springs. In fact putting the Pro springs without any adjustment gives a little bit of positive camber which is a good thing (vs. the standard 172 setup).
But mounts are crap too and age badly. Ive just got back from K-Tec and Im a very happy man! Apart from the bangs when I slammed gears etc., Ive had problem with vibration caused by engine shifting and exhaust manfold touching heat shield. Replaced the drivers side mount today, (after previously...
Got very similar problem on mine (and being meaning to PM JAY/Mike about it).
Mk1 with 31k. For last 4/5k, giving it any serious throttle and get a nasty vibration. Found that bottom dogbone mount was screwed ... bush had shifted out and the mount was touching the bracket on the gearbox...
Still got the photos of my first car (original S-reg VW Polo Mk 1) rolling over from 99999 to 00000 somewhere. A38 from Plymouth at speed I recall ... on the way back from seeing my (now) missus, many years ago.
Not expecting to see that in my 172 tho. Now if I had a V6 255, I might just keep...
swelch ... bloody ironic that its noisiest at 3.5 - 4.5 kprm aka motorway speeds. Fine when not pushing it driving around.:) Great when giving it hell. :D Boomy when cruising on the motorway. :(
Got used to it tho ... volume 18-20 on the standard Clio stereo with appropriate guitar-based music.
On a 172? Well I watched K-Tec do 2 of mine the other week and ...
Easiest one is the bottom Dog Bone. 2 x nuts/bolts. 1 minute job.
One under the battery is complicated by the fact that the battery is so tight and fiddly to get out. Once youve done that then reasonably easy. Biggest...
Dont know if K-Tec use a different approach to hanging their twin 3, since mine fits really nicely. Hangs perfectly, straight to the car, and with a single finger gap between tailpipe and bumper. Admittedly since Ive got a Mk 1, there is the is the useful recess along the bottom edge of the...
33 exactly now ... just got back from night out and its now tomorrow aka my birthday. Strangely my missus and kids are in bed so nobodys about to give me any presents. So being a sad f**k ... Im on here!!
£420 fully comp with protected NCB and the other legal gubbins with DirectLine ... until they charged me another £26 for my K-Tec exhaust today :(
33 tomorrow, with 14-some years NCB.
So ... encouraged by swelchs lead ... thought Id better tell DirectLine about my new K-Tec twin 3. They "agreed" that it wasnt going to change the performance, but still charged me £26 extra :(
I know its not £57 (or more), but still pissed since I put 3 x insurance policies their way at the...
Nah ... the repeated bleeding was on the old cars ... worst was my first VW Polo (original S-plate Mk1) which had truly terrible brakes. Took about 5 goes to get thru an MOT once ... just kept adjusting brakes, bleeding the system, warming them up, going to the MOT garage, until it passed...
Mines recently started doing exactly the same. Only on one bend so far ... the fast left as you come off the M3 onto the M27 at "considerable speed" too.
Reckoned on the same diagnosis as MaLicE, but as far as I could see when I checked the levels above min. Frigging hard to see tho since...
Hmmmm ... hard to tell how much it cost for the fitting, since they did some other diagnostics work for me. Theyve always been much more than fair whens it comes to charging time tho.
Heres a piccie of the 6 x 3. Havent got a piccie of the twin 3 yet, tho that particular tailpipe has been...
