Aaron has done a few for people on meganesport.net he seem like a decent guy, his garage is only 5mins from my office actually.
I also know where he gets the bearings from ;)
Where are you based?
Offically there is not a replacement bearing from Renault, they will only sell you the whole hub.
But some people can replace the bearings with after market bearings, if the hub isn't damaged from the worn bearing.
The easiest way to check for a worn bearing is to jack...
I had a set of custom frames made for my 172... but I don't have the dimensions anymore, I've just spent 10mins looking for them :(
The best I have is a few photos (this was before the holes where cut for mouting to the floor pan and side mounts:
You could not go any lower, they where...
The 4th mount sits at the front of the gearbox and bolts to the subframe via a plate on the gearbox.
Ok after some searching... subframe dimensions are the same, but the RS subframe is double skinned in places and has the 4th mounting hole for the lower box mount.
So your DCi does not have a...
Yeah, would be a bonus if the 4th mount fitted to your gearbox but I don't know if it has the holes / capacity to do so... or, if it doesn't have one already? hmmmm
Checking the vac pipe is a good shout, Vicky runs ITB's now doesnt she? that would have required a new vac pipe / re-routing.
I was under the impression if you disable the ABS it reverts to 50/50 braking? although I could be wrong....
I think you've covered all the bases there... Bring on the weekend!
If we didn't need to fit the 172 subframe we wouldn't need to drop your DCi subframe, hence the ARB being more difficult to fit.
I think it would be easier just doing the whole lot, then we know it's correct and full 172 spec.
Easy peasy... :)
The only thing we may struggle with is undoing / removing / swapping over the ARB on Neils car, I am not sure if you can remove them without dropping the subframe?
When you and Nom are in MK settled with a nice house and double garage I am sure the project will pick up again... If not I'll be coming down EVERY weekend with a big stick to poke you. :o
DCi calipers will be smaller than the 172 items, therefore they will not fit on the 172 hubs (larger bolt spacing) and I assume this goes for the hubs / driveshaft size differences.
Assuming Bombers brakes are in good condition that's an added bonus of the conversion? ;)
But we'll also have to...
Those worn steering rack bushes are becoming more common now, guess its an age thing.. I've seen it on a few 172's now.
A bit of a pain to access / remove but there are worse jobs :)
Onwards and upwards... At least it's easily accessible, being 4meters from your house! Even it's a few hours work here and there.
I thought there would be less room in your garage with the car in there!
Although it's not quite standard... Would be good to see you again mate, it's been a while!
I might be looking to sell mine in a few months, job change dependant.
