ive had both and prefer the ph1 172, better to drive with the 15" wheels and cable throttle more raw however mine is starting to rust very slightly on the rear arches, its going in to get sorted out though before it becomes a problem, so it does happen.
i couldnt find anything with a search to find if this has been covered yet?

standard fit Cobra from memory, you adjust the sensivity by swapping wires on the sensors (windscreen pillars) search how to do it on a 172 and you will find it, i cant remember how to it.
i wouldnt pay anywhere near that for a spring fitted, my gran could fit a rear coil spring.
jack it up at the side needing changed, remove the bottom damper bolt (16mm from memory) spring will fall out when the bolts removed, place the new one in, drop the car down low enough so you can get...
cheap trouble free motoring is good as long as you like the car, i dont mind having a 2nd car so it can sit off the road when im not using it, i use the dci daily costs pennies and never gives me any greiffe! plus ive got a decent suspension setup and uprated brakes all round so its fun lol
decent set of tyres, you could go for coilovers since they are coming down in price these days, decent set of uprated pads, standard disks, fresh brake fluid, pannel filter, 2.0 non RS F4R throttle body, matched inlets, exhaust manifold, decat/sports cat, cat back system. then get it mapped...
