Yes I am certain that you are right there! The Ford head is ok, but they had to keep standard valve sizes, just like the modern R3s do. A friend was running one on throttle bodies with big valves and a lairy exhaust and that was only 240bhp. Motorsport always does attract a few optimistic claims...
A pleasure. Nice to read about a proper build with some interesting and different things going on, so I can just about forgive a bit of b****cks! Will be really interesting to see what it makes. I've got a MK5 Escort RS2000 rally car and I'd be really interested to build a forged piston engine...
Mine is a daily so I am a bit reluctant to put stiffer mounts in. However, in a few months, I would like to retire it from daily use and keep it just for fun, meaning stiffer mounts would suit it well. Damned if I do, damned if I don't!
Just read through this whole thing, very interesting. I'm a really rally buff, so this engine is right up my street. Seen a couple of R3 Clios out on events, they sound fantastic and seem to go really well. Was really hoping to see what the engine had done, but looks like I will have to remain...
Drove one at the Nurburgring earlier this year. The box is awful. Slow and changes up just when you don't want it too. The box in my friend's eight year old Passat is miles better. It drives "ok" but it doesn't have the "alive" feeling of the older models. The styling is also a bit clumsy on the...
If it's a daily, I wouldn't do anything that is going to reduce refinement, as it will quickly become annoying. I use my Cup daily and it is hardly a world of refinement as it is.
Just make sure it has good tyres, good brakes and that everything is in good condition and enjoy it for what it is...
Yeah I know all about what you mean there, I spent plenty of time filling in a few gaps in my Escort like that! I can't claim it looks pretty though...
Has it had any seam welding or anything done? Can anything be cut out? I was amazed at the stuff I managed to get rid of from my car. But...
Changing the injector transformed it. I plugged a friend's diagnostic reader into it and it was recording a misfire on cyl. three. When I replaced the injector on that cylinder, it made it a lot better. Idled much better and behaved much better when cold.
That being said, it has gotten a bit...
I know this is a bit of a long shot, but my friend is looking to get the rear of his Pug 206 track car lowered. Seeing as it's a torsion bar, I don't have a clue how to do it, and he'd rather leave it to someone who has done it before.
Does anyone know anyone in the east that could help...
Where have people used? I live near Gt Yarmouth but work in Thetford, so in those areas and in between would be fine.
Spoke to Cit-Ren this morning and was quoted £540 for belts + dephaser, or £600 with the water pump (which I'm tempted to have done as the car is on 122k).
Those prices don't...
It's a difficult thing to get right I think. I'm certainly no vehicle dynamics expert, but from my exposure, I was also cautioned against toe out at the rear in a rally car. As you say, it helps to loosen the rear end, which can help turn in. That's great on a circuit, as it's nice and smooth...
Nice to see someone rallying one of these. I've got an RS2000 rally car (MK5) and I genuinely think the Clio would run rings around it! Would love to convert mine for rallying when I've finished with it as a road car, but got a much bigger and better Escort coming. Hopefully that will cure the...
Nice to see someone rallying one of these. I've got a MK5 RS2000 rally car but I do wonder if the Clio might actually be better on a budget!
Be interested to know the spec of your car, drop me a PM if you get a second :)
Interesting stuff!
Assume use of Laguna hubs got a bigger wheel bearing? Wonder what impact it has on geometry.
Do you have a copy of the build manual you could send me?
Thanks Ian.
I bought it in around October last year from the chap in Ipswich. Funny that you lived in Thetford - I work there at the moment!
I'll reply to your pm when I'm on my laptop too.
Yeah absolutely. Times and tastes change but I have some really good memories of that period so I look back on it with a lot of fondness.
Anyway, here we are, on with the pictures. These are coming up on a couple of years old but it's not really changed. It doesn't get used much now as the...
