its probably your isp throttling you, most of them do now, especially for torrents and when t'internet is busy like midday until midnight!
Go out and buy a dvd or game for a change!
and whats wrong with me? ;)
I'm a HP storage and server pre-sales consultant working for a leading HP reseller, I just recently specced up and sold a 1m+ server blade and EVA solution for EDF Energy so I am qualified to recommend something.
thinking about it though, if you did want to do iton the cheap you could use an MSA1500 with an MSA30 shelf with 15k scsi disks and then an MSA20 with some SATA discs (for the backup to disk and snapshoting).
Then use host based replication like Doubletake (the EVA uses array based replication)...
you really need an EVA rather than an MSA to do that mate.
MSA is not really designed for snapshoting and replication really.
2 EVA 4100's, unlimited business copy license and continuous access licenses either end.
that will replicate synchronous or asynchronous and provide you with any type...
hp carepacks, they really do try it on, i basically don't leave them alone until its sorted, if i don't get what i want i call up again and speak to someone else.
last week we had two power supply failures which was random (different servers) and called HP, on both ocassions we had the part...
we have had an MSA1000 for 3 years now and it hasn't missed a beat as yet, very good for the money, not sure what could have gone wrong there, if you simply remove a drive and put a new one in it should just rebuild the array in minutes.
the VTL, not a massive fan, theya re ok but people think...
drop me an email if you want, we are currently looking at UPS's too, APC have some good models and as mentioned above, we are getting a 30KVA for well under 10k so it shouldn't be a problem to get something for your budget.
I am talking about these and quoting them daily at the moment, we sold over 200 c-class blades to a customer last month for a new datacentre so we are currently favour of the month at HP at the moment as its the biggest blade deal for a reseller I think.
I love them, they are such good...
Nice Lee, MSA1500 i think with some MSA30's, a DL360g4p SAS model and a DL360G5 with an MSA 20 maybe, then an MSL6000 tap library and 1/8 tape autoloader?
I have just ordered a nice new EVA4100 for us with a couple of shelves, all the redundancy, 16 port switches, loads of snapshotting software...
you don't have to have the free one anyway, you can have £300 towards another one, at least you can at currys and as its the same group i can't see why it wouldn't be the same.
it came out at the beginning of last year, I saw in in chicago in the february, have pics of it which I posted in the transformers film thread.
I was there this year too and they showed off the convertible version and the woman on the stand said that the car is being made into a reality because...
it was between the jvc and the sony in the end and i went for the sony as i could get it for £200 and it matches all my other equipment which is sony and got great reviews over on the avforums.
I think I made the right decision, its a lot of quality for the price, really is a slick product and...
well i got the sony, set it up and its amazing, great value for the money!
it even has an auto setup on the speakers which works great, all set up and wrking in under an hour.
well chuffed and games and movies now sound amazing!
I reckon its as good as when i went from and SD tv to a HD tv!
