Um, im very partial to supersprints simply because they are designed and tested units, fit perfectly and are quality items. I dont rate many other manufacturers. But you wont get a power gain or anything, the std system raelly is that good, the only restriction being the HUGE rear silencer...

500 quid on a chip, exhaust and sealed induction will give about 10bhp. Not much for the money, but its all about drivability, you wont really get up to speed any faster, but it can drive nicer. chip and exhaust dont really do anything on the 172/cup, its all about inlet temps.

Have you ever seen what happens to s/s over time? and the tubes is one part, you seen the welds on a powerflow system, to say amatuer is being nice. i personally woudnt bother, they really dont have any idea about exhaust theory.

its just the heat shield cooling and contracting, nothing to worry about. Any and all performance cars do it, you should listen to a porsche cooling!
