Shifter now feels fantastic again and the bushes remove any backlash from below. I need to still put the knob on and boot but will do this tomorrow then take a photo. Will be also tackling the A/C and taking a grinder to the crashbar so I can fit my ducts.

They're easy on the piston, just a normal caliper really. It's the mechanism inside thay can become non functional. You want to measure the distance the piston moves when operating the mech

What you want to do is move the arm manually and measure the distance the piston moves.

I've no idea, but i've had it before. Maybe creating additional resistance within the circuit? This is linked to the cruise control. I'm not saying it will definitely fix the issue here, but its worth replacing for £8
