I recently got coilovers. Went for ast in the end, 50 quid more than h&r, but adjustable damping and a rear coilover, which no one else makes iirc. Awesome, especially on 15's
Never understood the point of all this slamming stuff, this just proves how pointless it is. Why not get the suspension set up for handling so you can enjoy driving it rather than admiring the way it looks. Beached on top of a speed bump.
When I was deciding which coilovers to go for, a few people mentioned the h&r's being a bit soft at the back. If you speak to curtis at powerstation (AST suppliers) he can do some stiffer rear springs (Burp has them).
All good cars. From my point of view, for the price of a semi decent ph2 (4.5-5k) I've got a ph1 on awesome coilovers, and (soon) some reclining buckets. If you've not driven a Trophy or coilovered 172, you'll be more than happy with a standard ph2. Where are you based?
The weight difference plays it's part, as does the engine (slightly less refined but much better throttle response), steering has more feel, the ph2 feels less adjustable, less fun.
Ph1 better to drive, slightly quicker, cheaper to run, better throttle response. For the price of a ph 2, you could get a ph1 with the body mods done, and stretch to coilovers. I've had 2 ph2's, now a ph1.
Black is bad. Looks like a normal clio, get flame or monaco, followed by iceburg, black should be bottom of the list. Realised last night that I've owned all of the 172 colours except black.
Having had both (172 + 182), go for the 172. The 182 is not worth the extra. You could get a tidy 172 for under 5k, just make sure the belts have been done.
If the cars running fine, I wouldn't worry about it. You're out of warranty, they'll charge you for the privelege of looking at the car. Mine was on for 18 months, without any issues.
Will do later, the 15's go on today. Have to meet up when you've got the golf, you won't believe the handling now. Been playing with the settings, neighbours think I'm a loon always lieing under the back of the car!
