Just an update, throttle cable had indeed snapped. £16 ish, half an hour labour, and £20 ish towing charge. Oh well, thanks for the info guys! You were right ;)

Was driving home in my mates Clio earlier and the accelerator pedal just hit flat to the floor, but with no power to accelerate. I pulled over and noticed that the cable and pedal was really loose. Looks like its either snapped or jumped out of place. Obviously I couldnt drive it any further so...
