Black is the worst colour to spray!
I would flat the car between base coat and laquer, and then fire loads of laquer on to enable you to wet sand and polish the top coat to get a good finish.
A decent machine will be needed after doing the above. Look into the Megs Bodyshop or 3M bodyshop ranges.
Only as good as the local guy in your area, check out some of there work first, well worth asking around locally to find people that gave used them. The guy round here is poo!
At least now you can touch them up, wet sand and polish the sanding marks away easily though Dave.
Gold Glass would'nt have been my choice, have 2 bottles here, only used it about twice but found it a pain on and off! You will love the P21s.
There will be no change in pipe size, sticking out seems to vary from car to car due to the quality french fit.
I would have had a look under, aftermarket is the most likely explanation IMO.
They are not cheap, but are proven, and will work. I put off buying mine for ages - once you have made the outlay you wont want to go back to working without one.
It's a rally car, I am sure Andy didnt build it to look nice and judging by the way it looked at the Wyedean at the start of the year dont think he cares how it looks!

Like Ben says hard to tell, how deep is it? Try AG paint Renovater, take it steady though as I have gone through the clear on a car even by hand with it!
