Surprised you didn't try to jump whilst it was being towed.

When the joint on my cat to exhaust started to corrode away, this did happen to me,it would come on randomly. Anyway a new cat was req (old one beyond repair) all is fine now. I had fixed it last year with some exhaust sealer,that lasted a year and got me through an MOT just.

Believe it or not mine has started doing this. If I just jump in and drive off it then starts spluttering like it's firing on one cylinder. If I leave ticking over for 5mins,then drive off,it's fine. Too much sh1t under the bonnet of these road cars imo.
