I've read a lot of reports that upscaling HDMI is terrible quality, DVD via xbox 360 using VGA or component is supposed to be better.

Macs are over priced, and under perform. At least if something breaks in a PC u can pop into town and pick up a replacement part. Try doing that with a mac.
