Right ok. In that case, try and push the selector fork for 5th down all the way so it engages 5th, then manually lift it up. The selector lever under the box SHOULDN’T move. Let me know 👍🏻
Take the end cover off again and upload pictures showing all the shafts that are sat under the selector fork for 5th gear. The box won’t have failed in my opinion mate.
I reckon its sortable - I just need to see what else is going on inside that end cover mate 👍🏻
Yeah that’s the issue mate. Small screwdriver to manipulate the clip so the hub slides down, and you’re golden mate. The hub just needs to be level. 👍🏻
Hmm bit of a strange one that! At this point, the best thing to do is drain the gear oil, lower the gearbox off its mount and remove the end cover for 5th gear.
Take a picture and upload it in here so I can see what’s going on 👍🏻
Ah ok.
I just do the eps start up procedure using Ista mate, so the test module just does the bizzo for you.
My real concern here is if the rack has jumped on the drive somehow when the rack was moved to unstick the bush. There is absolutely no reason to do that, as you can pull the bush out...
Does bimmer link allow you to restart the steering calibration?
The official bmw way is to remove the power supply plug and the signal wire plug. You’re also measuring the play in the rack bush in microns - there’s a special tool for doing it that we use at work when we replace them.
For the...
If it was mine, I’d get the passenger side sorted and then just enjoy it mate.
I’d only get a full respray if you were gonna go down the route of full resto/concourse condition.
I still have an engine stand, so I may be tempted to do one last engine build. Let me know what your idea is for spec and we can see what can be sorted.
That looks night and day better than it did after the collision mate!
I was genuinely gutted to see the damage on the car as well, but the main thing is, it’s all fixable stuff.
Has the rack moved slightly on its mounts?
Absolutely sue perb day up at Cadwell yesterday, and great company! I didn’t stop smiling all day!
Massive shout out to the admin for pulling off an MSV track as well!
With the venue being a bit more compact, from a paddock perspective, I think it kept everyone together more. I may be biased...
Personally, I think you’ll be fine. As I said yesterday mate, gut feel is some of the belt has gone behind the crank pulley and nicked the crank pulley seal.
If you get the box out and bring it to me, it’s a while you wait job - providing that clip hasn’t broken. If the clip has broken, ideally you want to be opening the box to retrieve it so it can’t do any damage internally.
You can do it from taking the end cap off, buts it’s an awkward fiddly pain in the f**king arse.
Could be synchro, but it could be the metal spring clip that pushes the synchro down has failed. You need to know if the dog teeth on the gear and selector hub are ok too, otherwise they’ll need...
Told the service advisor at work who lost her husband to MND, that we would be raising money for MND in the CSF raffle. She had a little cry and asked me to say thank you 👍🏻
