One item ticked off last night that wasn't on the list and it's an important one.
First start. Wasn't without issues though! First time connecting the battery and there were relays clicking, headlights were on and the dash just kept saying the auto lights were activated and then deactivated...
Dash back in, absolutely butchered it as the "full fat" dash in the MK3 has a soft touch covering and a lot more bracing underneath so it doesn't flex at all. Also pulled the old AC rad thingy out of the heater matrix so halved the weight of it. So I think I'll see if I can pick up a base model...
I would upload some pics but it seems the forum won't let me.
Now that the rollcage is fully welded in, I've started to put everything back together. Dash bar trimmed and some brackets removed. Started running the pipework for the fire extinguisher too, engine bay nozzles are in the final...
Spotted in Norwich today. Sounded alright I guess but he was just pootling about.
Also followed a 2008 RS6 most of the way home tonight, no photo though. I love how under-the-radar they are compared to current gen RS6's.
Newest find of bodgery on the £400 A3... Noticed the brake pads were very low when I put new tyres on, I didn't twig the main issue though...
OSF. As it should be. Typical VAG caliper with a 282mm disc.
NSF. Off an early A3/Fabia with a smaller (262mm?) disc...
WTAF? 😂
The marshals in the assembly area are normally pretty spot on and get you lined up, usually leaving enough room for people to come in to the area across the front of the little grandstand on pit entry. If you go back up to the main paddock you won't get back down.
I worked in the event industry for a few years and we did a show at Milbrook Proving Ground called Company Cars In Action, a place where you could drive a Nissan Leaf or a Golf GTD around the Alpine circuit, or maybe a 330d around the high speed bowl. Most companies brought a few hotter cars...
Well thanks to your advice, I have managed to fix it. No more limp mode and seems to be boosting as it should.
I don't know what I would do without you, @Cub.
I can tell there's a lot of oil in the DPF and exhaust though...
It'll burn off eventually. I was going to spend an hour...
Same as the answer you got on another forum, the seat is a rebranded Corbeau Sprint X. Fixed buckets will never be the best for daily duties but the decent Corbeau seats are fairly comfortable.
I've picked up a cheap 2011 Audi A3 to fix up, it's a CFFB 2.0TDI, 140bhp. It was smoking like a train and the DPF was full of oil where the turbo was buggered. So I ordered a new core. After a day of faffing about to fit it, skinning knuckles, arms, forehead and other body parts, it got fitted...
The Clio finally got some love today and my mate came over to weld in the front half of the cage, so now I've got that fully fitted and ready for the rebuild.
Just needs the dash bar and dash trimming.
And the wiring sorted.
And the fire extinguisher plumbed in.
And the bonnet and boot pins...
s**t picture because we have "AI" cameras in the vans that shout at you for blinking for too long. But it's a super rare FK1 Mugen Type R. I assume the stripe makes it a Mugen Type R anyway...
I have a gravel driveway to work on and I never use the jack on the gravel, I have a perfectly sized chunk of 22mm marine ply that the jack goes on. Allows it to move naturally, even with the weight of the X5 on it.
But then again the Clio was on axles stands on ply on soft grass a few years...
Yeah rather than the old divorced shock and spring setup, the GAZ Golds are a true coilover. OSR has enough space between the spring and body that you could house a small CS.net forum member.
Got around to fitting the rear GAZ Golds today, I know you need to fettle the inner arch/body on the NSR but holy s**t I didn't realise how much you need to beat the living s**t out of it.
Finally got around to starting to fit my Pierre Gasly Golds. OSF went fine, no issues there. NSF has fought me the entire time. I've got the rears to do shortly and I'm expecting that to be a fight too.
Finally got around to stripping the dash and dash bar out, heater out and got the front half of my cage in and ready for the feet to be welded in. Bit of a faff and the next time I put a full cage in a car, I'll be paying someone else to do it!
Not today because I haven't long crawled out of bed but yesterday I gave the little TCe Clio a service and finished fitting the parts cannon delivery to the front suspension to make sure it doesn't keep knocking like a t**t. Great success! Drives really well now so I may just keep it.
The...
I have a Corbeau Pro-series X in my Clio and it's SUPER comfy, however the sides are very tall so it's a bit of a chore to get in and out of. I'd probably spend my money on something like this - https://www.corbeau-seats.com/product-page/pro-sport
If going fixed back I'd avoid anything with a...
I did a booking. Went with group C, depending on how far I get with race car prep, there may or may not be a passenger seat but if there is then I'm happy for anyone to come for a spin (hopefully not a spin anyway)
Today I've mostly been swearing at the cheap and cheerful MK3 Clio I bought as a runaround. The balljoints were both shagged and the LCA bushes were past their best so I've fitted new lower arms, new track rod ends and generally spent the day regretting my life choices
It'll be up for sale...
Massive build thread on that one here - https://clio197.net/threads/extra-stripey-gordini-recaro-pics-added.53260/
He spent a LOT of money doing things right on that car.
I did Cadwell one January with Opentrack, the track was frozen in places but nobody died. You'll be fine Dave, just follow me around and you'll be safe.
EDIT - I knew I had the photo somewhere. Hardest part was staying upright in the paddock!
