The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

A slightly frustrating week and weekend. The shims finally arrived Frday afternoon, over a week after I ordered them but I suspect this is due to the fact that Pure Motorsports has just been absorbed by KAM Racing, as the shims were dispatched from KAM in the end. So I was able to get the head...

Easy enough as long as you have a vernier. You need to measure the complete assembly, so include the oil stem seal and the top retainer. And then check what preload the specific springs are rated for. If your reading is low you need to order the appropriate shims to increase the load. (Nick at...

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

More progress over the weekend, getting all the valves lapped in.... and then measuring preload of the valve springs which showed up something interesting. After measuring the installed spring height and then measuring the load at that height it appears the springs are not giving...

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

Made a start on the head these last couple of days. Stripped out the old valves and cleaned and dressed all the surfaces ready to remove the guides. there's some minor scoring on the cam journals but after a quick call to my engine builder he assured me that there is nothing to worry about as...

A quick update after spending the afternoon getting this oil pump installed. Started with drinding out the fins in the sump as per the instructions. Went better than expected and cleared the pump on the first attempt! After this I turned my attention to the windage tray. I had heard previously...

Probably the release bearing going dry. May be time to plan a clutch change.

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

Post Snetterton work started with sorting out the starter motor. Following the race at Snetterton that car, somehow blew the main fuse after sitting in Parc Ferme. I have seen this before and suspected the starter motor. The stud that the main lead attaches to had come loose in the body of the...

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

For the Snetterton weekend I partnered up with Shaun Ely, my mate who I normally race against but his Pugeot 205 is off being fettled at the moment (he's designed his own independent rear suspension for it!) and as he's been helping with the car we agreed for him to have a go in a Clio. I don't...

    182 Touge/Tuner Build

I'm not sure a phase 1 nose swap as as straight forward as wings, bonnet, bumper and slam panel but I'm sure someone else will be able to clarify what is involved. Loving the creativity though!

    Odyssey blue ph1

Good work. Watch out for that rear main seal though. I fear you may have knocked it in too far. It should protrude about 2-3mm. A ridiculous design!

The trials & tribulations of racing a Clio

Snetterton Prep. brought the car out of storage with one week to go before Snetterton on the 19th July, next weekend. Main job was the clutch change, so yesterday morning got the car up on the quickjacks and started the strip down. The car is still disgustingly filthy after Donington but that...

With a 40 minute qualifying too, it was the equivalent to doing 4 races in one day! Or 8 sprint races! So yes, pretty happy the car survived. plenty didn't. Engine was running quite hot though, so not sure how much longer it's going to last. Need to get the race engine built ASAP now!

Donington 2 hour endurance 21st June Well that was stressful! This was the first event of its kind at Donington and the CSCC had put a fair amount of effort in to its smooth running. There were actually to be 2 endurance races. One for the modern stuff, (including us in the Tin Tops) and a...

A short film made by my youngest daughter who is a first year film student at Brighton Uni. Hoping to get her to a few more meets in the future. Its great for those who don't have the attention span to watch one of my on-board films (most people I'm guessing - me included!)

Right, not the full race report or even video yet. But - a little montage of every time we were passed by the outright race winner. While we won our "TinTops" class race, we were far from the quickest on track with some seriously quick GT cars on track. With the slowest being the Ford Pumas...

The weekend has arrived and we're about ready. (I think) New lift pump assembly arrived in the week along with the front hub with a far better quality SNR bearing from PMS pressed into it. Feels much tighter. Need to check the camber setting once on some level ground but much happier now...
