I bought a group N ecu from Hillpower a year or two back for my Mk2 172. Same as the R-Sport ecu AFAIK.
It's now surplus to requirements - is it possible to get it unlocked so I can sell it?
Cheers,
Gareth
Where can I go to get my 172 tested that has a good reputation, in Manchester/Cheshire/Merseyside area? I have previously used ProSport in Stockport and Mikeanics in Congleton, but it'd be better if it was someone that was regularly used by folks on here.
Cheers,
Gareth
Not very happy with my 172's performance since having a custom system and sports cat fitted last week. I have always preferred low-end torque over high-end power and was doing quite well on this front with a few minor breathing mods. I even ditched my Hillpower IK because the car was much...
I know I've been on about this a bit lately, but I've still not got the info I need :(
I am fitting a sequential shift light that is supposed to work okay with a feed off the coil negative. I tried it with pin 3 off the coil pack as recommended for the Omex sequential, but it wasn't having...
When I took out a policy with them in Oct 04 they were easy as anything over the mods on my 172 (disks, springs, chip, IK). They were reasonable when the renewal came up a couple of months back, and I bought some SLs that they were happy with as well.
Had a custom exhaust fitted today and...
After 4 years of ownership I finally saw my gearshift light come on today! I apologise to everyone I have told it was not wired up :o
My excuse is that I was always too careful with the revs in the early days, then after I got my group N ecu the goalposts moved again. Revving beyond 7000...
Need to get a wire from inside the car through to the engine bay (coil pack). Where is best/easiest? The area behind the glovebox seems promising, but I think there's a double bulkhead that will make things tricky. Don't want to start taking bits off if possible...

Had my Group N ECU for some time now. I'm told these work best with a free-flowing system, so I have been fiddling around doing minor breathing mods (ITG/silicone elbow/cold air feed) and I'm planning to get a full powerflow system and a sports cat fitted later this week.
Is the Group N map...
Is there a collection of these anywhere for Clios? Seem to remember on Scoobynet years back there was a link to a library of owner's charts with all the details of car spec/mods etc. Very useful for researching performance mods...

I tend to change up at around 6000rpm in my 172 - it's high enough to catch the next gear at 5000rpm and any higher seems a bit stressful to me :o . Pointless bouncing off the limiter IMHO - gone beyond any useful power by then. I have the Group N ECU with raised limit anyway, and my nerves...
Exhaust has started blowing (again) - will probably need to replace soon so where can I get an aftermarket but not loud/not visible alternative to the OEM system? I'm about to fit a Janspeed sports cat if that makes any difference...
My 172 is 4 years old but has only done 20K miles, so no scheduled plug change as yet. Would you think changing them anyway was advisable? What plugs are recommended? Will prob fit Magnecor 8mm leads at the same time for maximum effect
For Mk2 172 with group N ECU, OEM exhaust, ITG filter...
Read somewhere that filter and decat/sports cat was the best mod to complement the group N ECU. I got massive gains from a full decat on a Scooby a few years back. Totally different kettle of fish with the 172 obviously, but the...
Heel-and-toe is doable in regular shoes but there's no way a race boot or speedcat will bridge the gap. Is there any sideways adjustment (that doesn't involve hammers/levers)?
Cheers,
Gareth
What's the current favourite for mk2 172 with standard airbox plus cold air feed?
Prices from motorsportworld:
BMC £39.68
K&N £37.85
Green £37.54
ITG £36.84
Pipercross £31.34

I've just acquired a Viper with no fitting instructions. A copy online somewhere would be great. Otherwise, how do you attach the brackets?
Cheers,
Gareth
I haven't had my 172 on track yet but I'm thinking about it (got one booked actually)...
I've done plenty of trackdays before but TBH I was using a more track-oriented car and there was never any issue with mechanical wear and tear. OTOH my 172 is pretty much mint and I don't want to destroy...
As above - got Eibach Pro kit springs and 16s so something that goes well with these. Would like some lowering effect, but mainly looking for handling benefit (track bias). Not too much cash available though :(

Fitted my new 16" superleggeras today... some pics here: http://community.webshots.com/album/466130143PFVlnd
For the record, the original wheels with Toyos weighed in at 17kg each, and the OZs/Toyos were 14kg each.

There are two outlet sizes listed on DT: 70mm and 85mm. Which is right for my mk2 172?
What is the internal diameter of the inlet pipe supplied with the kit? I already have a Hillpower cold air feed so it'd be great if that fitted straight on - never going to be that easy though! Or perhaps...
Been checking with Demon Tweeks and potn.com for super leggeras in 15" or 16" and they're both quoting 3 to 6-week lead times. Anyone know where someone has these in stock?
Cheers,
Gareth
Gearbox feels/sounds notchy going up/down into 3rd. Have tried a fully synth gear oil but no better. Dealer says it is synchro ring and I have got a price from them to fit an exchange box (partial warranty contribution due to low mileage).
Thing is, to me the roughness and noise is coming from...
I have bought 4l of Silkolene Syn 5 off "oilman". Not too good on spannering so any numpty tips on dropping/filling the gearbox oil appreciated...
Hoping to find an obvious drain plug, and got a good idea what the fill plug looks like. Take it you need to jack up the front to get to the drain...
Is there a newer version of Dialogys available? The one I bought off Ebay has minimal info on the 172 Mk2 (CB1N) - it knows about it but theres hardly any documentation.
The newest tech note listed is 4320A, 2003/04.

Noticed that one of the side skirts on my 172 has lost a few patches of paint - looks like it went on wrong as it is only this part that is affected, i.e. the rest of the car, including the other skirt, is A1.
Im guessing that it wouldnt be massively expensive to get a new one painted and...
