the noise does go away when the revs increase? does the tapping come from all the cylinders when u have a faulty dephaser? can someone tell me why it makes the engine so tappy when its on its way out? is it to do with timing?

would I be able to feel play in the water pump? and why does this make the car sound like a diesel? does it mess the timing up?
