By the BMW garage on Europa Way, tailgating everything in sight, then pulling a twatty overtake off the roundabout.
Hi.
Just so you know, its a because of asshats like you that everyone thinks 1*2 drivers are all tosspots. Thanks.
Actually, if you go with the Arduino idea, you could output an alert to a in-dash display if you go over 6800 revs when the water temperature is under the specified temp.
If you need a light to stop you ragging it from cold, then I'd suggest you need to go and take a look at the coursework from your first class degree in automotive engineering.
I didn't miss the point, I was merely suggesting that relying on Renault's 'lip service to morons' water temperature...
You'd be far better fitting an oil temperature gauge and not ragging the crap out of your car until it's fully warm.
Then you can fit a simple circuit with a temperature switch to ping a light when it's up to operating temp (which will be much later than when the water warms up) if you still...
Morning all,
I've got a weep from what looks like a black plastic cap at the end if the cam on my 172 cup.
Roughly where the red circle is (not my engine, best photo I could find!)
I'm guessing that the cap is just a plastic cover, and there's a cam seal behind it?
Is it likely that's the...
Well, its with the gent that is Fred at BTM now, he's going to split it down and see what the score is. Shat out completely on the way yo his, and arrived via RAC. Makes a pretty horrible graunchy noise when much power is put through it and gives no drive, so concerns are it may be the diff.
Yup, I'd always had it down as input/layshaft rather than release bearing. However, it seems more than a coincidence in this case.
I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and book it in for a clutch.
Mini 182 - I think I looked at that when it first did it, and it was around £400 or so.
As in - new box? At a couple of hundred for an unproven second hand box, or quite a bit more for a rebuild of mine, I'm not sure it's something I need to do to be honest. This feels very much like the 'bit between the box and engine', rather than the box itself.
Can someone sanity check my diagnosis please, before I shell out a wadge of cash I don't need to...
I have a 172 cup on 72k - a while ago it started monkeying about and crunching all the gears, as if the clutch didn't fully disengage. I reset the pedal adjustment and it worked OK.
Started doing...
Hi all,
I think the self adjusting mech on my clutch may be banjaxed. A fee months ago it felt like it wasn't disengaging, so I reset the adjustment mech, and it sorted it. Its done it again now though, and the reset only works for about 5 prrssrs!, and I'm hoping that, as it was a sudden...
Hehe, yup, that's me :)
Problem solved - appears the self adjusting mech had self adjusted. I tried the 'reset' procedure found on here - disconnect cable at box, pull hard, push pedal to floor, pull cable at box end, reconnect, pump pedal, and it's worked.
I'm very suspicious as to why this...
Right, just been to have a look - not sure how to tell if the ratchet mech is buggered?
Got a colleague to depress the clutch - the cable moves about 30-35mm or so at the clutch pivot - does that sound right?
Balls. Just found that. I'll try the resetting of the adjustment tip that I've found, but I don't hold out much hope. I'm guessing new clutch time? The box has always been noisy, but it seems a bit odd for it to suddenly go in non spectacular fashion, especially as the noise sounds like layshaft...
Morning all,
All of a sudden, my 172 cup (03) has decided it doesn't want to select gears very easily.
All go in fine with the engine, off, and there's drive when they are selected, but every gear crunches pretty badly. Clutch modulates fine in terms of pulling off/feathering etc.
It's almost...
Hi all, I gave an of rattle/clatter from the underside of my 172 cup.
Very noticeable when driving past walls etc, sounds more 'meaty' than a heatshield.
Had the car in the air and I can't see anything obvious, however, there's quite a bit of slack in the gear linkage. A search suggests that...
This seems like a definite misfire though to be honest - I'm used to grumpy cold idles (I've got a ported rotary :D) but this most definitely seems more extreme. If Renault had released it like this I'd be genuinely shocked!
Hi All,
Posted before about the slightly wonky idle my car gets, and came tot he conclusion 'they all do that, sir'.
However, the car is definitely holding back at light throttle, most noticeably when cold. In addition, there's definitely a slight misfire on idle.
I'm thinking probably coil...
Just done a bit of googling - if it has been remapped, does that mean I should be running it on super/'98 RON?
Being from a rotary background, I'm all to aware of the dangers of pre-detonation...
Ah cool, OK, thought that may be the case - not that familiar with these engines but I've seen references to them not being the smoothest of idlers!
The other one I viewed (182) was similar, but I just put that down to the fact it was a shed.
Cheers :)
Afternoon all,
I picked up a 172 at the weekend - lovely car, great on the test drive, but after I get it home, I noticed the idle can sometimes be a little rough (it wasn't on the test drive!)
Still sticks around 1kRPM, but seems a little off beat and chuntery at times.
Car has the belts and...
You know, I hadn't even looked. That'd be far too simple, wouldn't it!
Cheers, will have a look when my other half returns from her 'test drive' :D
Cheers dude :)
Can this be done?
One of the reasons I bought a 172 was for the ISOFix stuff, and I've realised that it's missing the rear bar :o
Having trouble finding one, and until then, I need to be able to carry our little dude around, but obviously I'm not going to do it with the airbag enabled!
Cheers
Si
Ta :)
Will join up soon - mine of information here :) Already found potential solutions to two of the issues I discovered yesterday (French electrics, huh? it seems my airbag light and jumping speedo are pretty much standard fit to these cars :D)
