Thanks chaps for all your advice. After a chat with Mike at Rentech I've gone for a recon engine from Renparts, who were really helpful. Being fitted next week.
I've put enough into the car already since I got it that I don't want to replace it if I can get away with it. Everything else on it is very tidy.
Besides, it's not just any old Clio - it's mine. :D
Diagnosis was remote by Mike at Rentech, suspected piston ring. Lots of oil went in to top it up, none came out the bottom as far as I've been able to tell, expansion tank gone very dark and dipstick dry very quickly,
Mike's thoughts were that the work involved in diagnosing for sure, plus the...
Massive oil consumption from my 76k miles 172 Cup has led to an expert diagnosis of probable terminal damage, and a suggestion that replacing the engine is more cost effective than digging around to find out what's wrong.
Just wondering what other people's experiences have been with this. Seems...
Just thought I'd update my tales with this.
I initially hardwired it in and all was fine, but then I got a DAB head unit, and the Mobius completely knackered the signal, at least with the DAB aerial mounted on the windscreen. Since then I've ordered the shielded Mobius case and tried running a...
Just been researching this a bit more, and most guides online seem to suggest getting a fuse piggyback set up for hardwiring. How essential is this? Will just splicing into a live wire be ok, or do I risk flaming death?
Having looked at the 172 fuse box I'm not sure the cover would go back on if...
Thanks chaps, really appreciate it. I'll order the hardwire kit and then come back to this thread when I inevitably set the car on fire and need more help.
Hmm, OK, thanks McGherkin. I'd like to keep the cigarette lighter free though, for plugging in my phone and such. I've seen that you can get replacement/extra lighter sockets, would it be worth tapping one of those in around the back and plugging it in there?
Edited to add - this seems the kind...
Thanks Mike, much appreciated. I'm not kidding however when I say I'm a complete electrical novice: what's the best way to tap into the 12V feed, and what's the best way to attach the earth wire to the chassis?
Inspired by a couple of threads on here I've bought a Mobius cam to use as a dashcam. I'd like to wire it in permanently rather than having cables dangling everywhere, but I'm a complete novice when it comes to electrickery.
Could anyone that's done this very kindly explain what I need and how...
From what I understand (having not actually done it myself) you just need to pop the speaker covers off, unscrew the speakers and screw the new ones in after connecting the wires. No need to remove the whole door card.
I used a Citroen stubby aerial for a few quid off eBay. Looks great, but to be honest I don't listen to the radio so I'm not sure if it works very well.
It was this one -http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-CITROEN-PEUGEOT-SHORT-ROOF-AERIAL-/270529482123?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160
Advice I got from a professional audio place was that it's not really worth replacing the rears unless they're physically damaged.
Pioneers you mentioned are apparently a bit better than standard but not loads, but for ease of use they're worth looking at as you can just swap them over.
I'm looking for a cargo net that will fit my 172 Cup, but despite some serious Google-fu I can't work out what the part number is. Can any one help please?
Cheers.
Cheers 1812lsd. So, assuming the fronts just need flattening and cleaning, and won't rust, my best option would be to wallop rust remover all over the rears, then a couple of coats of POR15 all over? Or is it best to not do the faces of them?
Thanks Dave, appreciated. I've just noticed the fronts have got a couple of little dinks on them too, presumably from when they were posted, that will need flatting off. No need to treat them or anything like that?
I've just purchased some second-hand front hubcentric spacers and rear stub axle spacers for my 172 Cup, but they have a small amount of surface rust on them.
Is this anything I need to worry about? I'm aware that it's best to have as clean and flat a surface as possible when installing the...
