The Cup brakes are fine. Loads of feel and very easy to modulate. I don’t ever remember locking a wheel on the road.
It did spit me off at Curborough once, but that was because the rears locked due to a knackered compensator.
Hi Martin,
I’m afraid I don’t have the part number. Renault supplied directly to my local garage who fitted it.
The Bosch one looks identical except for the spring. I suppose it could be valved differently, but you’d think that’s unlikely. So yeah, just remove the spring…
Cheers, Rob.
No heroics off the start line, just a brisk start trying not to wheelspin so I can give it full power as soon as possible. It's boring and sounds slow, but seems to be quickest.
Well done James, you're getting faster and faster every time. :)
The car thing's interesting. It seems to be accepted that 200's are faster at Curborough, but 172 Cups are obviously pretty handy. Have a look at the data on Resultsman.co.uk - you were the fastest through the finish line speed...
Funny you should post this, I've just been filling in the entry form for this year's Curborough championship.
I'll be juggling Curborough and the HSA Championship. They fit together quite nicely, but I'll miss the first round at Curborough because I'll be at Harewood instead (hopefully).
Hello,
The bolster on my driver's seat is getting worn - any ideas how/where to get it repaired?
The foam has failed, so the metal is rubbing on the cloth, which is now looking a bit thin. Think it needs new foam and some new cloth too. Guess it's the kind of thing a good upholstery company...
That looks great. Well done for being so close to the others, that seems a really good effort particularly for a first visit to the circuit.
I did a track day at Cadwell in about 2009 in my 205. Such a fabulous circuit. Would love to go back.
What was the course? Pit exit to pit entry? Any...
Yep, I appreciate it's heavier than the Cup but it felt crap to me, particularly when pulling away. Really gutless.
Definitely didn't feel right, and brother's adamant it had changed.
A few months ago my brother bought a very tidy low mileage 200. Initially he was very happy, but it seemed to lose performance. I had a quick drive in March, and it seemed really sluggish pulling away (no torque), and a slower than I'd expect at high revs. My 172 Cup felt night and day more...
Enjoy Cadwell! I did a trackday there years ago, absolutely amazing circuit. I haven't done any Javelin events - for some reason I have a deep unquestioning loyalty to Motorsport UK!
RaceChrono looks interesting. A couple of years ago I bought an Aim Solo2 DL lap timer and data-logger thing...
Just to conclude this one in case it helps anyone else... Turns out Renault still sell the Cup compensator, for not much more than the ECP part linked above.
Now fitted the brakes feel much better. I haven't competed yet, but it feels much happier and more stable on the brakes.
Those look a great idea... but I need to keep mine standard for the class regs.
Anyone got any experience with the ECP regulator, or any other ideas for what might be wrong with it?
Cheers.
Hello all,
I use my bog-standard Cup for hillclimbs and sprints. For obvious reasons it hasn't seen much use this year, but has done two events since lockdown and it's locking its rear brakes more than it used to. At Curborough on Saturday it tried to spit me into the barriers...
Got away...
Well done James, that was a seriously good effort to find so much time from last year! You're right with us now. I reckon there was only 0.52s covering the top four in SC, so competitive.
This was my mistake in T2 -
I think I can do 7, maybe 8 rounds. I'm doing the HSA championship too so permission slips are at a premium!
Really looking forward to it, it's brilliant that the SC class is so popular and so competitive. And I'm keen to see how much time I can find by getting really familiar with a venue. I...
Excellent, proper springs are going to make a load of difference. Definitely worth fitting new struts and top-mounts while it's apart.
I'm a bit jealous of the steering wheel and seat... Can't bring myself to swap mine, feels like the start of a slippery slope!
One practice and three timed is fine if the three timed runs all count towards the results, but many championships only count the first two timed runs. If you're chasing a target time it makes it much harder.
