Completely agree with you there. Cracking engines with lots of cheap tuning potential (~300bhp levels are dirty cheap relative to many others, though above that starts to add up a touch) but the V6 sounds infinitely nicer.
I almost bought a 172 shell to drop my spare 1.8t into last year -...
Don't I bloody know it too! (Old pic, evidently - appropriately just before fitting a new splitter to the grey one! House has been cleaned since too as it was long overdue...)
If folk could stop putting them on everything else and driving up the price that'd be great. I'll let you off since...
Great photos.
Front end is crying out for a small lip of some sort though. Something in black would balance well with the rear spoiler - carbon would be lovely, though a few scuffs would be expensive to sort vs plastic/etc.
Sadface. I know it'll be tucked away in the bay and largely unseen, but it's a real shame that events have led to it looking sorry for itself like that. Bit of an overnight soak in some white vinegar might help clean up the housing before it goes back on. Otherwise a light media (soda/walnut)...
Good stuff. The 3.2s do sounds lovely and with the manual box, ~250bhp of NA goodness is a lot of fun.
That said, a good whack more with a turbo is even more enjoyable, if you've a penchant for speed and a few grand burning a hole in your pocket ?
With our first on the way, I've been considering picking one of these up. Mrs R currently has a pd130 Golf but being a 3 door it's not really going to be ideal and these seem like a reasonable change. Not sure if I'd like a little more poke though .
They also did a 1.8t and I have a garage full...
I've not looked into veg oil running for a few years now, but seem to recall at the time lots of folk on the various VAG forums recommending used stuff. I can't remember if there was actually any real benefit other than it being free, but common sense says being a little thinner would help too...
I'm afraid I don't recognise your hands lie Dan but from the context you're a trials rider (or at least were). Funnily enough, I'm just building up a bike again!
Brutal seeing the state of the car after that crash, glad everyone's ok afterwards :yum:
Tidy work on the return system mate, nicely done. I was going to suggest measuring your injector spacing as I have a spare 1.8t fuel rail somewhere which would be nice and tidy (has integrated FPR placement) but I think it'd want to be in the same location as your dipstick. I assume you've got...
Do they run the 6 speed 02M box, or did they get one of the later sets?
To come full circle and back to CS roots - do I recall seeing some folk fit the 02M gearbox to Clios? May well have just been one random build I've seen in the past, as I've not looked at how difficult it'd be (they're a...
No TT has suitable brakes, that's why you need to fit a set of Brembos off the LCR ;)
Yeah the QS is a nice bit of kit for sure. Basically a factory version of what I was in-eloquently getting at. Would love a DSG to play with but they're not quite on par with modern equivalents from what I've...
The 3.2 has 246bhp (book)
A st1 1.8t (assuming the k04, since nobody wants the early 180bhp TT) will sit at around 265bhp on little more than a decent map.
As I've said, the 3.2 sounds fantastic, and bolt on parts are bolt on. If you're basing a purchase purely on engine noise then that's...
Factory power:weight is actually slightly favourable on the 3.2 in that case, but the extra is hanging over the front end of course on an already front-heavy chassis.
I've never been so convinced by the 3.2. Fantastic sounding bit of kit and NA is always nice, but less powerful than a st1 1.8t model (the price difference would more than cover the cost of a map) and far more expensive to tune. Don't get me wrong, I've had naughty thoughts about converting the...
If that's aimed at me, then no. Forged rods and rebuilt the lump recently. Need to build a head for it before I go too silly though. Still, I've done it all myself and including buying the car it's cost me less than £4k, so I'll settle for that. Forged engine, turbo conversion, LSD etc so it's a...
I went for some kind of compromise - bought a £1k LCR with no idea how a car works
I said at the time though that part of the idea was to learn as I went, and although the curve's been steep, I've sure as hell learnt! With the exception of general servicing and a few little bits, I'd...
You say that, @Goodj , but prices have come down a fair whack in the past few years and you can pick up a tidy S3/LCR for £3k relatively easy, and less if you find a real bargain. £3k for a tidy car and another £1-2k towards maintenance costs and/or mods would be a tidy daily, or £2.5k on the...
If you plan to keep it relatively standard, I'd avoid the quattro and go for a LCR (but then I am biased...)
Same power at the engine, less weight and losses getting it to the wheels. Unless you're planning on going above 300bhp or so then there's no real need for the Haldex system, and if you...
