    I also had this problem, although the sensor was not to blame. The issue was with conductors inside the wire to the sensor being damaged and giving an intermittent connection; which led to the engine stalling. The solution to restart the car was always to move the connector back and forth...

    Doh!, Ive just re-read my post and the temp. sender is actually on the RH side of the block, under the throttle body. Apologies for the confusion.

    I sometimes have a similar problem with my 182. The temp. gauge needle flicks between normal and cold as if theres some intermittent fault, with the result that the idling RPM jumps to 2,000.
