Welcome back! I certainly remember the name from way back (I bought my 182 in 2004, which I still have, and been on here since just before that!) - and may have even bumped into you at some events (French Car Show at Bruntingthorpe or the old Renault World Series events at Donington around...
Just seen this pop up, and will drop Paul a line to see if there's any news - I know he has had a busy race season, but was going to get something sorted with Jerrick and Edwin at Meister...
So, it's been a while, so it's time for an update. Firstly, I have managed to get my exocet through the IVA and registered, so have had that out and about, covering a couple of hundred miles so far, which has shaken it down nicely and identified a few jobs to add to the list. However, now I also...
Cheers guys - definitely unlucky with the double whammy of crashes - but also lucky that both have been just panel damage - and the insurance company have been pretty good in terms of paying out quickly and fairly both times!
Not a lot to update at this stage - but at the moment the plan is to...
That is a great idea Paul - and knowing the quality of your work and how good the Meisters have been on my Mazda, I would be well up for this (but I do need to fix my 182 first!).
I will start the bidding at a cheeky £400 and you can choose the charity!
Paul @Roddison above fitted and set up mine on my mk3 MX5 5ish years ago now after having experienced the benefit on Paul’s race cars. Since that, they have taken 5 years of road and occasional track use in their stride - they have a great balance of being compliant (but more controlled than...
Time to bring this thread back from the dead (and probably should change the title to 14 years...)
So, why the bump, and what do I have to report on the 182? well, it has been running well - with not a lot to report initially, just a service and a straightforward pass for the first MOT, and...
We've had a Milltek on our 182 for the past 3 years (replacing a pro-speed that was on there for a long time!), and it has been very good. We did notice though that there was a cracked weld on the outlet of the centre box when it was MOT'd this time. Thankfully, as the original buyer of the...
Good news - we double-double checked tdc and the cams were still out - and the cam pulleys were also out relative to each other - so with the new belt kit fitted and timing checked half a dozen times we have built it back up and I am happy to report that it runs sweetly (we only ran it briefly...
Thanks for the comments - and double checking (before we remove the belt and risk breaking anything!) I think that we have been using the wrong crank pin (2 supplied in the kit - we had been trying the threaded one, which it seems is wrong) - so will rectify that and check we really are at TDC...
We have gone round at least 2 rotations of the crank to check for alignment (and done so twice!) - and this is the position where the crank pin goes in and that both cams are sitting with their slots below the centreline, so am confident it is right - just miles out! Will do a triple check on...
Having got my timing tools today, we popped the caps to check the timing - and straight away could see the issue - and the cams are out of time. So we have begun stripping for a new belt and retime it.
Having done our 182 twice now, I am amazed by how much access there is in the cup thanks to...
After all the swapping around of bits, that's what we're thinking too - so will see what it looks like when we get the tools on it later in the week. I am assuming it must have slipped slightly when the dephaser was done...
If you are thinking of investing in a lift, I would say go and do it - I had a garage built a couple of years ago and made sure I had enough left in budget to buy a scissor lift - which I sourced from BH Repairs, who I chose as they aren't far from me, and are also a lift repair/servicing...
Evening All,
I am posting a thread on behalf of my brother who has just bought himself a tidy 172 cup which has an issue that we are trying to resolve thus far without success. The car itself is an 03 plate 172 cup with 79,000 miles, with 3 previous owners - it being bought from a local guy who...
Cheers again guys - Definitely glad that I was able to get her back, and sorted so simply!
@Akay I think I have seen your car about (assuming you're on the wheels in your avatar!) - will keep an eye out for you locally - there seem to be a few nicely kept 182's around nearby now...
Cheers guys - I'm sure that I'm not the only long term owner on here, but thought the repairs were a good reason to write up a bit of its story so far!
I was definitely surprised that it was assessed as a write off, and then had a decent offer - I was expecting a proper low-ball start and a...
With a recent set of events, I thought it was about time that I put a thread together to chart the history of our little clio 182, which is actually my wife's car - but has now been with us so long that it's part of the family!
So, we start by winding back to Autumn 2004 - my brother had just...
Wow - that was an awesome film! I think that I agree with the conclusions really, three amazing cars that all achieve a similar result through very different engineering, and that makes it all the better.
I think I'd have to have the P1 though - if for the looks and the turbo-nutter noise alone!
Had our 182 from new and it's still going strong - 10 years in October! Has been great during that time, and since it needs another cambelt, I'm going to treat it to a good fettling shortly to celebrate!
As someone who formulates MTF for my living - don't use simply a GL-4 or GL-5, that won't be good for your gearbox as it doesn't necessarily have friction modifiers for the synchros. You need a 75w/80 dedicated MTF from a decent brand - gl4 and gl5 are specifications for pretty much wear...
Having been out for a stag night last night (and recovered with a Fresh Basil breakfast!), I can sympathise with that!
I imagine the one you'd seen was ours also, outside our old house - we moved a couple of years ago, but have still got the 182.
That'll be mine (well, my wife's!) - it's definitely ready for a decent bit of elbow grease! I'll take this as a signal to get my finger out!
I assume you were at the food festival too then? was a good event!
