    A Monaco Blue 2002 Clio 172

Sold! Really friendly guy and his girlfriend bought it. Directed him to this forum for any help or guidance on it in the future. His first hot hatch, so I told him to go easy and not be like so many of us that stack it on the way back from buying it. 🤣 I will probably be back at some point as...

I enjoy the fixing as well as driving of cars! I didn't intend to buy this needing work and certainly not a belt change, but I won't deny I enjoyed learning how to do it. I've been toiling on whether I want to sell this or stash it. I get in this and enjoy driving it. I then go in my Boxster...

    ***How much is it worth?***

What do we reckon my Clio 172 is worth? Looks like I'm going to have to sell it now 😔 Done 151k but wouldn't have got to that if not looked after. Bumpers are scuffed unfortunately but probably less of an issue as it's higher miles and unlikely people looking for something mint. Never been...

Got the Clio back. Spring, top mount, CV boot and then did the thermostat that I supplied. Apparently was a bit of a ball ache of a job and took quite a lot of phoning around to source parts for. Running like a champ now though. I'll go out for a drive in it a bit and give a good blast around...

Since my last post I've been driving it around. Fuel trims are still quite low but it seems to be running fine after that brief blip out of storage. It's in for an MOT today so the emissions output should let me know if something is amiss. They're also going to do the coolant+thermostat as it...

Really feint hesitation/miss at light throttle

If I had a car that had been rough running for nearly a decade, I think I would too.

Really feint hesitation/miss at light throttle

I've read this thread from start to finish. Came up on Google search as mine has just started exhibiting some of the symptoms you've had. One of the things I've noticed you haven't done is a compression test. Get a decent gauge though - the cheap red box Chinese ones are awfully off. Gunson is...

    A Monaco Blue 2002 Clio 172

I was pondering about the fuel trims when driving this earlier and when I did the usual scan of the gauges, I remembered that the thermostat needs changing as it's gone on the lazy side and must be opening too soon. Checking with the scan tool, for the gauge to be in the middle, it needs to be...

My chief suspicion right now is the Lambda sensor. £85 for a genuine Bosch from ECP. Problem is, it's right down the back of the engine and you know it'll be a right arse to remove. Especially as I don't think it ever has been and original to the car. Its got an MOT on the 24th, so I might ask...

Injectors came back as 14.7, 14.6, 14.8 and 14.8 Ohms when stone cold after sitting for a day. Spec I think is between 14 and 15 Ohms. Doesn't tell me much about the spray pattern though. However they are ticking evenly when listened to, so unlikely to be gummed up.

What next? There really isn't many sensors on the Clio and hilariously you can disconnect the MAP, intake temperature sensor, O2 sensor and it will still run. No warning lights either. I sprayed some carb cleaner about the manifold to check for leaks but there wasn't anywhere that caused a rev...

Did some fiddling tonight to see if I could pin down this slightly rough idle and the low long term fuel trim. Low long term fuel trim means the ECU is injecting less fuel as it thinks it's running too rich. In this case it is reducing the injection amount by 23.5%. First off was checking the...

Yeah not a bad shout to check. Just ordered a cheap mechanics stethoscope to have a listen if one injector is particularly different to the others.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it is, however I hate playing parts darts and much rather diagnose a problem properly first. Otherwise you can end up replacing parts unnecessarily. If it wasn't such a pain in the arse to do on the Clio, I'd have pulled the plugs. Might still do that, just it's a good half...

Small update. Pulled this out of storage as it needs an MOT this month. However all is not well. Went up a steep hill coming back and it started bucking under heavy load. Felt a bit like misfire but not that severe. Literally just been for a spirited drive and ran fine, with it appearing to...

No worries glad it helped! Even though float cam timing is a common thing nowadays and used on many other cars, the Clio seems to be a bit more awkward. The biggest issue I think is that the cams naturally want to move out of place significantly if the lock tool isn't in. You have to fight the...

I had a tool. It broke on the last time when I was getting arms off a car [emoji38] Haven't got around to replacing it yet. Thankfully the Clio arms came off with a wiggle. No they shouldn't snap, but it did. I hand tightened both and certainly not gorilla tight either. Didn't snap any of the...

Cool, I'll have a look at sometime. It works at the moment though, so I'm tempted to not fiddle! Perhaps me pushing on it made it locate into the peg?

Thanks! Getting a double garage was a essential thing when we were looking for a house. Bit of a dream come true. Even if it means a big chunk of mortgage to pay off until I get to retirement... 😔 Sprint restro is well underway. Plenty of bodywork left to do! Got a full thread here if you're...

Tried using zip ties This wasn't strong enough to hold it on. I couldn't find a replacement bolt in my stash either. Thinking I'd seen one of these bolts before on the car, I suddenly remembered where. Air filter mounting bolt! Fitted in perfectly. Air filter is so packed in there that it...

It's been about 500 miles since the belt change and I've been buzzing around it locally. First off I changed the power steering fluid with this stuff. Cheapest Dextrin II that I could readily find. Used my Pela pod to suck the old fluid out. Shoved the pipe down into the return line at the...

200 EDC CHECK AUTO GEARBOX NO DRIVE

Sounds like the gear selector switch doesn't know its in Park. Have you tried cycling through all the positions? Might be lucky and get the switch cleaned up. Also worth checking the connections. Not just corrosion, but also if its been left a year there is a possibility rodents could have...

Just come back from an evening walk along the beach. All in I've done about 40 miles in this today. Fingers crossed seems to be running great. Windscreen keeps steaming up, so have to keep the aircon on. I imagine it's because inside is still pretty humid from all that damp still in the foot...

Wasn't really much left to do now. Reversed the back end out of the garage, let it get up to temperature again and double check underneath for leaks. No leaks, so refitted the undertray Sprayed some chassis protector where the jack stands were and scraped off the existing protection...

Fannied around today finishing this off. First off was to glue in the boot bump stops. Someone had been here before and used sealant. I scraped that off and refreshed with Tigerseal. Hopefully inside my boot won't get wet now. As you can see, it's another case where I am crap with...

I did have a good look in the scuttle area with the drivers side panel off and it's dry as a bone. Couldn't see the centre drain from that panel off though so can't be 100% sure. Don't really want to take the wiper mechanism off if I don't have to. Where are the rear bungs?

This meant only one thing, there was a short further up in the loom. Even worse the boot wouldn't open. So ended up having to go in through the back seats Then forcing the mechanism by hand Turns out I fitted the lock catch upside down. For reference the microswitch should be at the bottom...
